1978 NAIA Division I Football Season
The 1978 NAIA Division I football season was the 23rd season of college football sponsored by the NAIA, was the ninth season of play of the NAIA's top division for football. The season was played from August to November 1978 and culminated in the 1978 NAIA Division I Football National Championship. Known this year as the Palm Bowl, the title game was played on December 16, 1978 at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium in McAllen, Texas. Angelo State defeated Elon in the Palm Bowl, 24–14, to win their first NAIA national title. Conference changes * This is the final season that the NAIA officially recognizes a football champion from two conferences, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The SWAC has since become an NCAA Division I FCS conference while the PSAC competes at the Division II level; both continue to sponsor football. McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium
McAllen Stadium is a high school football stadium in McAllen, Texas, United States. It has been used for college and high school football and soccer games and track and field meets. The stadium contains a full track and full-color video scoreboard. It is owned and operated by McAllen Independent School District, and is the home stadium for the football teams from McAllen High School, James "Nikki" Rowe High School, and McAllen Memorial High School. Memorial Stadium is the largest stadium in the Rio Grande Valley (Texas), Rio Grande Valley. The South Atlantic Conference (SAC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level, which operates in the southeastern United States. Minnesota–Morris Cougars Football
The Minnesota Morris Cougars football program represents the University of Minnesota Morris in college football at the NCAA Division III level. The football program was founded in 1961, a year after the University of Minnesota Morris was established. Minnesota Morris first joined NCAA Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in 1966. With a conference record of 0–34 from 1999 to 2002, Minnesota Morris decided to join NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level, which operates in the western Midwestern United States.
