The 1978 National Soccer League was the second season of the National Soccer League, the former top-tier Australian professional soccer league, since its establishment in 1977. Petros Karavitis
Petros Karavitis ( el, Πέτρος Καραβίτης; born 11 March 1952) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Karavitis began his football career at his hometown club, Chaidari. He transferred to the youth team of Olympiacos for a fee of 30,000 drachmas in 1968. In December 1970, manager Lakis Petropoulos promoted Karavitis to the first team, in which he remained a regular in several roles for ten years. He won four Greek Championships and three Greek Cups with Olympiacos, including two domestic doubles in 1973 and 1975. In December 1980, Karavitis left the club after the then president, Stavros Daifas did not proceed in renewing his contract. Thus, Karavitis signed for AEK Athens. Murray Barnes
Murray Barnes (16 January 1954 – 31 December 2011) was an Australian soccer player. Barnes played for the Australian team for six years, captaining the team nine times. Playing career Club career Barnes played for a number of junior soccer clubs including Northern Tigers and Kissing Point in New South Wales. He also spent a year with the youth team of English club Leeds United. During his senior club career Barnes played for Sydney Hakoah (later known as Sydney City Soccer Club) in the New South Wales State League and in the National Soccer League. International career He played 32 full international games for the national side scoring six goals. He was captain of the Socceroos for nine matches between 1978 and 1981 including World Cup qualifiers against New Zealand, Fiji, Chinese Taipei and Indonesia. West Adelaide Soccer Club is an Australian soccer club currently playing in the South Australian State League 1. Traditionally named Hellas, the club was founded by members of the Greek community of Adelaide.
