Eberhard Gienger
Eberhard Gienger (; born 21 July 1951) is a German politician ( CDU) and former West German gymnast. He competed at the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics, winning bronze in the latter. Gymnastics career During his gymnastics career from 1971 to 1981, Gienger won 36 German championship titles; one gold and three silver medals in world championships; three gold, two silver and two bronze medals in European championships, and one Olympic bronze medal. Gienger was an outstanding high bar artist: He won the European Championships in 1973, 1975 and 1981; he won gold in the 1974 World Championships, and won the bronze medal in the 1976 Olympic Games. For these feats he was elected German Sportsman of the Year in 1974 and 1978. The Gienger salto on the high bar and on the uneven bars is named after him. The Artistic Gymnastics World Cup is a competition series for artistic gymnastics sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). It is one of the few tournaments in artistic gymnastics officially organized by FIG, as well as the World Championships and the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympics. Beginning in the 2017-2020 quadrennium, the All-Around and Individual Apparatus World Cup series are used to qualify a maximum of seven spots to the Olympic Games. History The Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) hosted the first artistic gymnastics on an international scale in 1975. This genre of sport from then onwards was named as the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, an original competition reserved for the current best gymnasts. Johnson was one of the first American gymnasts to win a major international medal, known for her longevity and tenacity in the sport. Early life On September 13, 1959, Johnson was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Career At a young age, she lived in Indialantic, Florida. Stefanie Biskupek-Kräker ( Kräker; 21 April 1960) is a German psychologist and retired gymnast who competed for East Germany at the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games. Over her career she won four Olympic medals and six world championship medals. Career Kräker began competing on the GDR national team in 1976. One of her earliest senior competitions was the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where she won a team bronze medal. Following these Olympics Kräker emerged as a major member of the GDR team. In 1977 she became the 1977 GDR national champion and won a bronze on the uneven bars at the 1977 European Championships. Aleksandr Vasilyevich Tkachyov (russian: Алекса́ндр Васи́льевич Ткачёв) (born 4 November 1957) is a former Soviet/Russian gymnast and two times Olympic Champion. He trained in Dynamo, Voronezh. His trainer was USSR national Pyotr Fyodorovich Korchagin. Tkachev was one of the world's strongest gymnasts between 1977 and 1981. Bart Wayne Conner (born March 28, 1958) is a retired American Olympic gymnast. As a member of the US men's gymnastics team at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, Conner won two gold medals. He owns and operates the Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy in Norman, Oklahoma, along with his wife, Romanian Olympic gold medalist Nadia Comăneci. In addition, both Comăneci and Conner are highly involved with the Special Olympics. Early life and education Conner was born on March 28, 1958, the son of Harold Conner and Jacqueline May ( Hulsey, later Wolthausen; 1931-2000), and grew up in Morton Grove, Illinois.
