Willis Reed
Willis Reed Jr. (born June 25, 1942) is an American retired basketball player, coach and general manager. He spent his entire professional playing career (1964–1974) with the New York Knicks. In 1982, Reed was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1996, he was voted one of the " 50 Greatest Players in NBA History". In October 2021, Reed was again honored as one of the league's greatest players of all-time by being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. After retiring as a player, Reed served as assistant and head coach with several teams for nearly a decade, then was promoted to general manager and vice president of basketball operations (1989–1996) for the New Jersey Nets. Glen Gondrezick
Glen Michael 'Gondo' Gondrezick (August 30, 1955 – April 27, 2009) was an American basketball player who operated as either a shooting guard or a small forward ( swingman). Basketball career Born in Boulder, Colorado, he attended Boulder High School in his hometown. The 6'6" Gondrezick played collegiately at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A starter on the Runnin' Rebels' first Final Four team in 1977, his jersey number 25 would be retired by the program twenty years later. Gondrezick was drafted by the New York Knicks in 1977, in the second round (26th pick overall). He competed in six NBA seasons, appearing for the Knicks (two years) and the Denver Nuggets (four), and averaging six points, four rebounds, and one assist in 435 regular season matches. 1977–78 Detroit Pistons Season
The 1977-78 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 30th season in the NBA and 21st season in the city of Detroit. The team played at Cobo Arena in Detroit. It was the last season playing in Detroit, until the 2017-18 season when the team returned to the city proper. 1977-78 was the franchise's final season in Cobo Arena, as they moved to the Pontiac Silverdome in the Detroit suburbs, also the home of the NFL's Detroit Lions, the next season. 1977–78 Buffalo Braves Season
The 1977–78 NBA season was the Braves' eighth and final season in the NBA. Entering the season, the Braves were allowed an escape clause in their lease, because season ticket sales did not reach the set goal of 4,500. The Braves suffered another disappointment as Tiny Archibald (whom they acquired from the New Jersey Nets for George Johnson) was lost for the year due to an Achilles tendon injury in the preseason. The Braves played competitively in November with a respectable .500 record at 10–10. Despite the promising start, the Braves won just nine games over the next three months. While the Braves were struggling on the court, owner John Y. Brown was brokering a deal to take over the legendary Boston Celtics franchise. The 1977–78 Boston Celtics season was the 32nd season of the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was linked to the Buffalo Braves season. While the Braves were struggling on the court, their owner John Y. Brown brokered a deal to take over the legendary Celtics franchise. Celtics owner Irv Levin wanted to move the franchise to California, however, the NBA would not allow him to take the cornerstone franchise out of Boston. NBA lawyer and future commissioner David Stern offered a compromise in which Levin and Brown would swap franchises, so that Levin could take over the Braves and move them to San Diego. Eventually, the owners of the 22 franchises voted 21–1 to approve the deal, and the Braves moved from Buffalo to San Diego. Nat Frazier
Nathaniel Frazier (April 18, 1935 – September 22, 2019) was an American basketball coach. He was head men's coach at Morgan State University, where in 1974 he led the program to the Division II national championship. Frazier played college basketball for Tuskegee University, where he was twice named to the All- Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team. After several years coaching high school basketball in New York and New Jersey and reviving a master's degree from the City College of New York, Frazier launched his college career as an assistant for Delaware State. He then joined the Illinois staff as an assistant in 1967, at a time when few African-American coaches could be found on Big Ten coaching staffs. Dick McGuire
Richard Joseph McGuire (January 26, 1926 – February 3, 2010) was an American professional basketball player and coach. One of the premier guards of the 1950s, McGuire spent 11 seasons in the NBA (1949–60), eight with the New York Knicks and three with the Detroit Pistons. McGuire led the league in assists during his rookie season with a then-record 386 assists, and was among the league's top ten playmakers for ten of his 11 seasons. He was an NBA All-Star seven times (1951,'52, '54-'56, '58, '59), and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 1951. McGuire became player-coach for the Pistons in his last season ( 1959–60), and coached them until 1963. He also coached the Knicks for three seasons, beginning in 1965. Steve Hayes (basketball)
Steven Leonard Hayes (born August 2, 1955) is a retired American basketball player and coach. He played for several years for a variety of teams in the National Basketball Association, as well as in the Continental Basketball Association and in Europe. He is also known for his standout college career at Idaho State University, where he is recognized as one of the best players in the school's history. College career Born in American Falls, Idaho, Hayes attended Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen. A center, he enrolled at Idaho State University in nearby Pocatello.
