1977 WANFL Season
The 1977 WANFL season was the 93rd season of the Western Australian National Football League in its various incarnations. It followed on from the previous season's high scoring to set another record for the highest average score in WANFL history at 109.57 points per team per game, which was to be broken substantially in the following few years due to the introduction of the interchange rule allowing for a faster game with less exhausted players. 1977 was in fact that last WA(N)FL season with ''no'' score of over 200 points until 1988. The season saw win their second consecutive premiership with a resounding win and record WA(N)FL Grand Final score over who were in the finals for the first time since their last premiership in 1974. Ray Bauskis
Raymond Valdi Bauskis (born 17 June 1954) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the South Fremantle Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) between 1972 and 1980. He was the leading goalkicker in the league for the 1977 and 1978 WANFL seasons, and played in losing grand finals in 1975 and 1979. Bauskis made his senior debut for South Fremantle in round thirteen of the 1972 season. His first full season was 1974, where he kicked 34 goals from 13 games to finish as the club's leading goalkicker. He repeated this feat for another five consecutive seasons, ending his career in 1980 with 436 goals from 117 games. The most goals Bauskis ever kicked in a single game was 13, against in round 11 of the 1979 season. He twice won the Bernie Naylor Medal as the league's leading goalkicker, with 107 goals in 1977 and 83 goals in 1978. Leederville Oval
Leederville Oval (known as Medibank Stadium under a naming rights agreement between 2006 and 2016) is an Australian rules football ground located in Leederville, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The ground is used as a home ground by two clubs: the East Perth Football Club and the Subiaco Football Club, both competing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). The ground was previously home to the West Perth Football Club from 1915 to 1993, before the club moved to Arena Joondalup, its current home ground. Robert Wiley
Robert John Wiley (born 24 March 1955) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Perth Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and for the Richmond Football Club and West Coast Eagles in the Victorian Football League (VFL). An inaugural member of the West Australian Football Hall of Fame, Wiley is regarded as one of the finest rovers of his era. He later coached Perth and , and was an assistant coach at West Coast. Stephen Michael
Stephen Albert Michael (born 15 March 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer. More recently, Stephen is the patron of the Stephen Michael Foundation, supporting disengaged, at-risk and disadvantaged youth across Western Australia. Playing career A Noongar Australian Aborigine, Michael played in the WAFL between 1975 and 1985 with the South Fremantle Football Club, playing 243 games and kicking 231 goals. He played in South's 1980 premiership side and was appointed captain in 1983. He holds the WAFL record for the most consecutive league games with 217. Throughout his career, Michael resisted numerous advances by VFL clubs to move east and is often listed as one of the best players to never play in the VFL. 1994 WAFL Season
The 1994 WAFL season was the 110th season of the West Australian Football League in its various incarnations. It was the final season before, to stem fears of dominance by the Eagles of the AFL, a second Western Australian team, the Fremantle Dockers was added to the national competition. Brian Douge (born 2 March 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Douge played mostly in the back pocket but never really established himself in the Hawthorn side until the 1973 season. Gordon Casey
Gordon Casey (born 25 March 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton and Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Casey, recruited from Gorya (towns of Speed & Turriff), started his career as a forward and was the Carlton reserves leading goal-kicker in both 1967 and 1968. Mal Brown
Malcolm Gregory "Mal" Brown (born 26 October 1946) is a former Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League and West Australian National Football League. He is described as "one of the most colourful and controversial characters" of the game. He was a highly controversial character not only for his many visits to the tribunal during his playing career but also for a number of incidents when coaching as well. Career Brown played in the WAFL (West Australian Football League ) for East Perth, Claremont and South Fremantle. John Gerovich
John Gerovich (born John Mateo Gerecivich, 23 June 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Fremantle in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL - now WAFL) during the 1950s and 1960s. Playing career Gerovich was a key-position forward, best known for high-flying marks and his prolific goalkicking. One famous mark, which he took in the 1956 WANFL preliminary final over East Fremantle's Ray French, is commemorated in a statue at Fremantle Oval by local sculptor Robert Hitchcock. The statue was based on an iconic photograph of the mark, taken by ''The West Australian'' photographer Maurie Hammond and published on Wednesday, 10 October 1956. Basil Campbell
Basil Gerard Campbell (born 2 August 1956) is a former Australian rules football player of indigenous background who played for the St Mary's Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) and South Fremantle Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) during the mid-late 1970s and early 1980s. Described as an aggressive and all-action type of player who was solidly built, he joined South Fremantle in 1975 where he generally played at centre half forward. Campbell was an instantly recognizable figure on the field wearing his protective helmet worn as a result of a head injury he suffered early in his career.
