1976–77 Division 1 Season (Swedish Ice Hockey)
1976–77 was the second season that Division 1 operated as the second tier of ice hockey in Sweden, below the top-flight Elitserien (now the SHL). Division 1 was divided into four starting groups, based on geography. The top four teams in the group would continue to the playoffs to determine which clubs would participate in the qualifier for promotion to Elitserien. The bottom two/three teams in each group were relegated to Division 2 for the 1977–78 season. Division 1 (Swedish Ice Hockey)
Hockeyettan is the third tier of ice hockey in Sweden. As of the 2015–16 season, the league consists of 46 teams divided geographically into four groups. Hockeyettan operates a system of promotion and relegation with HockeyAllsvenskan and Division 2. From 1944 to 1975, Division I was the highest league in the Swedish ice hockey system, but with the creation of Elitserien (now the SHL) in 1975, it became the second tier. Division I was further relegated to third-tier status in 1999 as HockeyAllsvenskan was spun off into a standalone league, but was frequently written as "Division 1" on the Internet, as it was pronounced "Division One". The league was renamed Hockeyettan for the 2014–15 season. Hockeyettan is the lowest tier to be organized by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association; all men's tiers below Hockeyettan are organized regionally. Swedish Hockey League
The Swedish Hockey League (officially SHL; sv, Svenska Hockeyligan) is a professional ice hockey league, and the highest division in the Swedish ice hockey system. The league currently consists of 14 teams. The league was founded in 1975, and while Swedish ice hockey champions have been crowned through various formats since 1922, the title and the Le Mat Trophy have been awarded to the winner of the SHL playoffs since the league's inaugural 1975–76 season. In the 2010–11 season, the SHL was the world's most evenly matched professional ice hockey league. During the 2011–12 season, the SHL was the most well attended ice hockey league in Europe, averaging 6,385 spectators per game, however in 2013–14, the SHL was third best in Europe, with an attendance average of 5,978. Mora IK
Mora IK (or Mora Ishockeyklubb) is a Swedish professional ice hockey club from Mora in northern Dalarna. After failing the 2019 SHL qualifiers, Mora has been relegated for play in the second-tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan. Mora has previously played 25 seasons in the top tier, including four seasons in Elitserien (as the SHL was called at the time). The team has reached the finals of the Swedish Championships only once, in 1950, a match which they lost 7–2 to Djurgårdens IF. Mora has played in the top two tiers of Swedish hockey since the 1944–45 season. History Mora IK was founded in 1935. In 1945, the club reached the top tier of ice hockey in Sweden for the first time, and participated in their first (and to date only) Swedish Championship final in 1950. KB Karlskoga
KB Karlskoga FF is a Swedish football club located in Karlskoga. The club was founded in 1963 following the merger of IFK Bofors and Karlskoga IF. KB means Karlskoga/Bofors. Background Since their foundation in 1963 KB Karlskoga FF has participated mainly in the middle and lower divisions of the Swedish football league system. Östersunds IK
Östersunds IK is a Swedish ice hockey club from Östersund. The club was founded in 1965 and has played 21 seasons in Sweden's second-tier hockey league. In 2003, the club transferred its A-team to Jämtland Hockey and played three years under that name while Östersunds IK was left with only its youth hockey programs. Then in 2006, Östersunds IK merged with Brunflo IK and took over Jämtland Hockey's position in Division 1. Piteå IF
Piteå Idrottsförening, commonly known as Piteå IF, is a Swedish football club located in Piteå that currently competes in Sweden's top-division women's league, Damallsvenskan. In 2018, they won the Swedish national Championship for the first time. History The sports club was formed on 24 May 1918 but did not take up men's football until 1920 when they united with their local rival club IFK Piteå, which then was dissolved. The women's team was founded in 1985. Piteå IF's female section is currently playing in the highest league, Damallsvenskan, which it reached for the first time in 2009. IFK Luleå
IFK Luleå is a Swedish football club formed in 1900, located in Luleå. The club merged with Luleå FF and played under the name Luleå FF/IFK from 1986 to 1989. History IFK Luleå was originally founded in the year 1900, but went dormant after some years. In 1920, the sports club IK Gyltzau won the Norrbotten district championship in bandy and this club was then renamed as a revived IFK Luleå, which continued to play bandy for many years. In 1932 and 1934 the bandy district championship was won again, now under the IFK name. IFK Luleå played one season in the Allsvenskan in 1971, the top-tier of Swedish football, but after a promising start their stay was short-lived as they were relegated at the end of the season.
