Scandinavian Raceway
Anderstorp Raceway, previously known as Scandinavian Raceway, is a motorsport race track in Anderstorp (Gislaved Municipality), Sweden and the sole Nordic host of a Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, when the Swedish Grand Prix was held for six years between 1973 and 1978. Track history The track was built on marshlands in 1968 and became an extremely popular venue in the 1970s, just as Swede Ronnie Peterson was at the height of his career. It has a long straight (called ''Flight Straight'', which is also used as an aircraft runway), as well as several banked corners, making car setup an engineering compromise. Unusually, the pit lane is located halfway round the lap. The raceway hosted six Formula One Swedish Grand Prix events in the 1970s. Ulrich Graf (15 August 1946 – 19 June 1977) was a Grand Prix motorcycle road racer from Switzerland. His best year was in 1976 when he won the 50cc Yugoslavian Grand Prix and finished in third place in the 50cc world championship, behind Angel Nieto and Herbert Rittberger. Alex George (born March 1949) is a Scottish former professional motorcycle road racer. He competed in the Grand Prix world championships in 1970 and then from 1973 to 1979. George was a street circuit specialist and was a three-time winner at the Isle of Man TT. His best year in world championship competition came in 1975 when he finished in seventh place in the 500 cc Grand Prix world championship. Born in Glasgow, George finished tenth in the 500 class in 1973. During the 1975 500cc world championship, he scored podium results with a third place behind Phil Read and Giacomo Agostini at the 500cc Czechoslovak Grand Prix and a third place behind Dieter Braun and Pentti Korhonen at the 350 cc Dutch TT. John Newbold
John Newbold (14 December 1952 - 15 May 1982) was an English professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Newbold was born in Jacksdale, where his parents ran a butchers shop, and was brought up in South Normanton. He began riding motorcycles on grass when he was 15. He progressed from riding at Darley Moor on a bike loaned to him by John Cooper, to performing in front of 50,000 crowds at Silverstone Circuit. His best season was in 1976 when he finished in fifth place in the 500cc world championship riding a Suzuki motorcycle. Newbold won his only world championship race in 1976 at the 500cc Czechoslovakian Grand Prix. He was a teammate of Barry Sheene and Mick Grant at Suzuki. Tom Herron (14 December 1948 – 26 May 1979) was a Grand Prix motorcycle road racer from Lisburn, County Antrim in Northern Ireland. He specialised in street circuits such as the Isle of Man TT and the North West 200. Career The beginning Herron's career started in 1965 when he competed in numerous events throughout Ireland, building up his experience along the way. Víctor Palomo (26 May 1948 – 11 February 1985) was a Spanish world champion water skier, Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and Olympic bobsleigh pilot. Sporting career Born in Barcelona, Spain, Palomo began water skiing in 1959 and in 1964, he won the Spanish water skiing national championship for juveniles. He was also crowned the European Junior Championship, a title he won two more times. In 1968, Palomo represented Spain as a member of the Spanish bobsleigh team in the 1968 Winter Olympics held in Grenoble, France.
