1976 Sabah State Election
The 1976 Sabah state election was held between Monday, 5 April and Saturday, 14 April 1976. This was the third state election to take place, and the first to feature opposition candidates since the first election on 1967, as the second state election on 1971 has all government candidates won uncontested. The state assembly were dissolved on 23 January 1976, and the nomination day was on 18 March 1976. In the election, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Jelata Sabah (BERJAYA) led by Fuad Stephens, won the election with a majority of 28 seats out of 48 seats in the newly expanded state assembly, and ousted incumbent government United Sabah National Organisation (USNO) from power. USNO, who is in coalition with Sabah Chinese Association (SCA) that governs the state for the past 9 years, only won 20 seats while SCA lost all their seats. The Sabah State Legislative Assembly ( ms, Dewan Undangan Negeri Sabah, Kadazandusun language, Kadazandusun: ''Langga' Tinukuan Pogun Sabah'') is a part of the legislature of Sabah, Malaysia, the other being the List of Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, governor of Sabah. The assembly meets at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly Building at Likas in the state capital of Kota Kinabalu. Abdul Ghani Gilong
Abdul Ghani bin Gilong (30 May 1932 – 6 March 2021) was a Malaysian politician. He was a federal cabinet minister in various portfolios from 1968 to 1978. Early life Ghani was born as Ganie Gilong on 30 May 1932 in Ranau to Gilong Rantau, a prominent trader and Bonggo Dumaring. He had five siblings. He started his tertiary education in an attap school in his hometown in 1938. During the Second World War, he attended Japanese school and later, a primary school run by the British, before continuing his education at Sacred Heart School in Primary One again. He attended school up to Form Four thus he did not sit for the Form Five examination as he thought that he was too old at 23 years old. Malaysian Social Justice Party or ( ms, Parti Keadilan Masyarakat Malaysia) (PEKEMAS) was a political party formed by Tan Chee Khoon and Syed Hussein Alatas in 1972. On 19 July 1974, Parti Marhaen Malaysia merged with the party. The party was dissolved in 1982. 1967 Sabah State Election
The 1967 Sabah state election were held between 8 April to 23 April 1967, with nomination day on 8 March 1967. This was the first state election to take place, after Sabah independence from British and subsequently joining Malaysia in 1963. Sabah Alliance which consists of United Sabah National Organisation (USNO) and Sabah Chinese Association (SCA), won 19 of the 32 seats and gained simple majority to form government. United Pasokmomogun Kadazan Organisation (UPKO), who are in the federal Alliance coalition with USNO and SCA but opposition at state level, won 12 seats, while 1 seat was won by an independent. The Governor of Sabah (Yang di-Pertua Negeri) is the ceremonial head of state of the Malaysian state of Sabah. The Yang di-Pertua Negeri is styled Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT; "His Excellency"). Muhammad Fuad Stephens, (born Donald Aloysius Marmaduke Stephens; 14 September 1920 – 6 June 1976) was a Malaysian politician who served as the 1st and 5th Chief Minister of Sabah from September 1963 to December 1964 and again briefly from April 1976 to his death in June 1976, 3rd Yang di-Pertua Negara of Sabah from September 1973 to July 1975, 6th High Commissioner of Malaysia to Australia from 1968 to 1973.
