1976 Kansas City Chiefs Season
The 1976 Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise's seventh season in the National Football League, the fourteenth as the Kansas City Chiefs, and the seventeenth overall. It ended with a third consecutive 5–9 record and the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season. Buck Buchanan announced his retirement in February, while Len Dawson announced his own departure on May 1. Off the field, Jack Steadman was promoted to team president and Jim Schaaf was named general manager in August. On the field, Kansas City's fortunes didn't improve in the second year of the Wiggin regime. The American Football Conference – Western Division or AFC West is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). MacArthur Lane
MacArthur Lane (March 16, 1942 – May 4, 2019) was an American professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven seasons, from 1968 to 1978 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and Kansas City Chiefs. Born and raised in Oakland, California, Lane was named after United States Army General Douglas MacArthur. Lane graduated from its Fremont High School, where he was all-city in football honors. He worked for several years in a machine shop, then played his first season of college football at Merritt College and transferred to Utah State University in 1965. Known as "Truck" in Logan, Lane was a linebacker as a sophomore and moved to running back as a junior, and averaged 6.9 yards per carry for his final two seasons. Henry Marshall (American Football)
Henry H. Marshall (born August 9, 1954), is a former professional American football player who was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 3rd round of the 1976 NFL Draft. A 6'2", 212-lb. wide receiver from the University of Missouri, Marshall played his entire NFL career with the Chiefs from 1976 to 1987. Career A model of consistency throughout his career, Henry Marshall came to the Chiefs as a third-round draft pick from the University of Missouri in 1976 and stayed for 12 productive seasons. Overcoming the label of a "bad hands" receiver early on, he became Kansas City's top receiver for most of his career. Paul Wiggin, Marshall's first coach with the Chiefs, described the wide receiver as "a super kid who can be a premier player." Gary Wayne Barbaro (born February 11, 1954) is a former free safety who played seven seasons in the National Football League from 1976 to 1982 and one season in the United States Football League (USFL) in 1984. A third round selection by the Kansas City Chiefs from Nicholls State University, he had 39 career interceptions and was selected to participate in three Pro Bowls. College career Barbaro played just one year of high school football at East Jefferson High School in Metarie, Louisiana, instead spending most of his high school years playing trombone in the marching and jazz band. Keith Simons
Keith Michael Simons (April 26, 1954 – July 26, 2017) was an American football player. He was a defensive tackle who played for the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Minnesota. He was named to the Associated Press All-Big Ten team in 1975. Simons was selected by the Chiefs with the 63rd pick in the 3rd round of the 1976 NFL Draft. He made his presence felt in his very first preseason game, when he blocked a field goal attempt in overtime and teammate Emmitt Thomas recovered the ball and returned it for a game winning touchdown. He was placed on the injured reserve list in October after tearing knee ligaments in a game against the Miami Dolphins. A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Cliff Frazier
Clifford Henry Frazier (23 November 1952 – 17 August 2014) was an American football player and actor. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was a defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, starting 12 of 14 games for the Chiefs in 1977. He had played college football for the UCLA Bruins, where he was a member of their 1976 Rose Bowl Game championship team. He was selected for the College All-Star Game after his senior year. Frazier was the 41st pick in the 2nd round of the 1976 NFL draft by the Chiefs. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles before the 1976 season in exchange for two future draft picks.
