1976 Clemson Tigers Baseball Team
The 1976 Clemson Tigers baseball team represented Clemson University in the 1976 NCAA Division I baseball season. The team played their home games at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Beautiful Tiger Field in Clemson, South Carolina. The team was coached by Bill Wilhelm, who completed his nineteenth season at Clemson. The Tigers reached the 1976 College World Series, their third appearance in Omaha. Bill Wilhelm
Billy Wilhelm (June 11, 1929 – December 24, 2010) was an American college baseball coach who was the head coach of the Clemson Tigers from 1958 to 1993. In his 36 seasons as head coach, Wilhelm had a record of 1,161–536–10. Before coming to Clemson, Wilhelm played several seasons of minor league baseball and served one season as an assistant baseball coach at North Carolina. Playing career Wilhelm played two seasons of college baseball at NC State, and he signed a professional contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 1950, splitting that season between the Goldsboro Cardinals and the Allentown Cardinals. Wilhelm then spent two years out of baseball from 1951 to 1952, when he served in the United States Army in the Korean War. In 1953, Wilhelm returned from military service and had his most successful minor league season. Due West is a town in Abbeville County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,247 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Erskine College and Dixie High School. History Some say the name is a mispronunciation of "DeWitt's Corner", while others believe the town was due west on a pioneer trail. The Treaty of Dewitt's Corner, a historic peace negotiation in May 1777 with the Cherokee Indians, was signed in Due West. As a result of the treaty, the Cherokee peoples broke into two factions. Newberry is a city in Newberry County, South Carolina, United States, in the Piedmont northwest of Columbia. The charter was adopted in 1894. The population was 10,277 at the 2010 census. Henley Field
Henley Field is a historic site in Lakeland, Florida. Built in 1922, it is located at 1125 North Florida Avenue. Clare Henley, for whom the park was named in 1942, encouraged its construction in an effort to persuade a professional baseball team to train there. On May 23, 1997, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Henley Field is located adjacent to Bryant Stadium, a football stadium. Henley Field was used as the home ballpark of the fictional Class D Tampico Stogies in the 1987 HBO movie '' Long Gone'' which starred William Petersen and Virginia Madsen. Melching Field at Conrad Park is a baseball stadium located in DeLand, Florida. The primary tenant of Melching Field is the Stetson University Hatters college baseball team, a Division I program playing in the ASUN Conference. Features Melching Field features 2,500 chair and benchback seats, with room for approximately 500 more spectators in a grass berm area along the first base foul line.
