1976 Caribbean Series
The nineteenth edition of the Caribbean Series (''Serie del Caribe'') was played in . It was held from February 4 through February 9 with the champions teams from the Dominican Republic, Águilas Cibaeñas; Mexico, Naranjeros de Hermosillo; Puerto Rico, Vaqueros de Bayamón and Venezuela, Tigres de Aragua. The format consisted of 12 games, each team facing the other teams twice, and was played in Dominican Republic. For the first time in Series history, the games were played at two different venues, the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo and the Estadio Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros. The Caribbean Series (''Spanish'': ''Serie del Caribe''), also called Caribbean World Series, is the highest tournament for professional baseball teams in Latin America. The tournament location is rotated annually among the countries and is normally played in February after all of the leagues have ended their national tournaments. Terry Bertland Whitfield (born January 12, 1953) is an American former Major League Baseball player. As an outfielder, Whitfield was known more for his batting than his defense, finishing with a career .281 batting average in 1,913 at bats in the major leagues. Francisco Javier Barrios Jiménez (June 10, 1953 – April 9, 1982) was a Mexican starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Chicago White Sox. Career Barrios was acquired from the Jalisco Charros of the Mexican League for shortstop Rudy Hernández, and played his entire major league career with the White Sox. He joined the starting rotation in 1976, and on July 28 combined with Blue Moon Odom to no-hit the Oakland Athletics, 2–1, at the Coliseum. His most productive season came in 1977, when he recorded career-numbers with 14 wins, 119 strikeouts, nine complete games, and 231 innings pitched. Despite his 9-15 mark in 1978, he threw two shutouts with a 3.82 ERA in a career-high 33 starts. He declined after that and was released at the end of the 1981 season.
