1976 Arab League Summit (Cairo)
The 1976 Arab League summit was held on October 25 in Cairo, Egypt less than two weeks after the Riyadh summit. The summit had a wider Arab participation and was dedicated to following up on the deteriorating situation in Lebanon. The outcome of the summit was the formation and deployment of an Arab peacekeeping force in Lebanon. Cairo ( ; ar, القاهرة, al-Qāhirah, ) is the capital of Egypt and its largest city, home to 10 million people. It is also part of the largest urban agglomeration in Africa, the Arab world and the Middle East: The Greater Cairo metropolitan area, with a population of 21.9 million, is the 12th-largest in the world by population. The 1976 Arab League summit was held on October 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as an extraordinary Arab League Summit. The summit came in the aftermath of the escalating civil war in Lebanon.
