World Judo Championships
The World Judo Championships are the highest level of international judo competition, along with the Olympic judo competition. The championships are held once every year (except the years when the Olympics take place) by the International Judo Federation, and qualified judoka compete in their respective categories as representatives of their home countries. Team competitions have also been held since 1994. The men's championships began in 1956, though the format and periodicity of the championships have changed over time. The last edition of the championships took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2022. History The first edition of the world championships took place in Tokyo, Japan in 1956. There were no weight classes at the time and Japanese judoka Shokichi Natsui became the first world champion in history, defeating fellow countryman Yoshihiko Yoshimatsu in the final. Jean-Luc Rougé
Jean-Luc Rougé (born 30 May 1949, Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine, Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine) is a French judoka. He competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics and the 1980 Summer Olympics. Biography Fighting in the under 93 kg weight division, Rougé was the first French judoka to win gold medal at the World Judo Championships in 1975 World Judo Championships, 1975. He was elected president of the French Judo Federation in 2005, replacing Michel Vial. He was also a candidate for the 1993 French parliamentary elections under the banner of ''Rassemblement par le sport''. On 23 November 2013 Rougé was promoted to the rank of 9th dan. Dietmar Lorenz
Dietmar Lorenz (23 September 1950 – 8 September 2021) was an East German judoka, who competed for SC Dynamo Hoppegarten under the Sportvereinigung Dynamo. Lorenz was born in the Saxon village of Langenbuch ( Plauen rural district), which was incorporated into the newly founded Thuringian Schleiz district through the district government reorganization of 1952 in the GDR. After starting at home, he came via SV Dynamo Schleiz to SC Dynamo Hoppegarten, the sports club of the Volkspolizei, in 1969. He won medals at major international competitions, taking gold at the European Judo Championships and the World Judo Championships. He won as the first German at the Olympics and the Jigoro Kano Cup. As a member of the East German Olympic team, he took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Shota Chochishvili
Shota Samsonovich Chochishvili ( ka, შოთა ჩოჩიშვილი, russian: Шота Самсонович Чочишвили; 10 July 1950 – 27 August 2009) was a Georgian professional wrestler and judoka. Kazuhiro Ninomiya
is a retired judoka who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Biography After graduating from Tenri University, Ninomiya entered the Shoki Juku under the instruction of Isao Okano. He joined the Fukuoka Prefecture police force in April 1972, and placed third in the All-Japan Judo Championships that year. He won a gold medal in the heavyweight division of the Asian Judo Championships in 1970 and the open weight division of the 1973 World Judo Championships held in Lausanne, Switzerland by defeating future Olympic gold medalist Haruki Uemura. He won another gold medal at the 1975 World Championships and won the All-Japan Judo Championships for the first time in 1976 to qualify for the 1976 Summer Olympics. Chonosuke Takagi
was a Japanese judoka. Takagi is from Shirahama, Chiba and began judo when he was in junior high school. When he was a member of judo club at , the senior of club is Masatoshi Shinomaki. Takagi began working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department after graduation from Nihon University in 1971. He participated in the World Championship twice and won a gold medal in 1973 and a bronze medal in 1975. As of 2011, Takagi coached judo at his alma mater, Nihon University. Among his students are Jun Konno, Michiaki Kamochi, Makoto Takimoto and others. He died of a heart attack at the age of 68 on 6 December 2016.
