1975 World Figure Skating Championships
The 1975 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA from March 4 to 8. At the event, sanctioned by the International Skating Union, medals were awarded in men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The ISU Representative was Jacques Favart of France and the ISU Technical Delegate was Hermann Schiechtl of West Germany. Men's compulsory figures were performed on March 4 at 8 am and ladies' figures took place the next day. The number of figures executed by each skater had been reduced from six to three. Colorado Springs is a home rule municipality in, and the county seat of, El Paso County, Colorado, United States. Bernd Wunderlich is a German former competitive figure skater who represented East Germany. He won the 1973 Friendship Cup in Bucharest and the 1975 East German national title. Didier Gailhaguet
Didier Gailhaguet (born 22 August 1953) is a French former Figure skating, figure skater, coach and official. He served as the president of the French Federation of Ice Sports, Fédération française des sports de glace (FFSG) from 1998 to 2004 and again from 2007 to 2020. He was suspended each time because of related scandals. At the peak of his power, he was one of figure skating's most influential and controversial officials, dubbed the "little Napoleon." Skating and coaching As a skater, Gailhaguet competed at the senior level for five seasons, performing at the World Figure Skating Championships, World Championships in all five. Robin Cousins
Robin Cousins, MBE (born 17 August 1957) is a British former competitive figure skater who was BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1980. He was the 1980 Olympic champion, the 1980 European champion, a three-time World medalist (1978–1980) and four-time British national champion (1977–1980), winning all of these titles during his amateur career. He followed this with a successful career as a professional figure skater and later starred in ice shows as well as producing several of his own. He is able to spin in either direction, both clockwise and anti-clockwise, which is an unusual skill for a figure skater. Off the ice, Cousins has commentated on figure skating events for the BBC, and he assumed the position of head judge on ITV's '' Dancing on Ice'' show from 2006 to 2014. Zdeněk Pazdírek
Zdeněk Pazdírek (born 13 December 1953) is a former competitive figure skater who represented Czechoslovakia. He is the 1974–75 national champion and competed at the Figure skating at the 1976 Winter Olympics, 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, placing 12th. He finished in the top ten at five European Figure Skating Championships, European Championships and two World Figure Skating Championships, World Championships. Following his competitive career, he toured professionally with Holiday on Ice from 1981–89. He married British figure skater Karena Richardson. Minoru Sano (figure Skater)
(born June 3, 1955) is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. He is the 1977 World bronze medalist and a five-time Japanese national champion (1972–76). Career Sano became the Japanese national champion for the first time in the 1972–73 season. In 1973 and 1974, he stood on the podium at the Skate Canada International and Prize of Moscow News. He represented Japan at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria and finished ninth. The next season, he won his fifth consecutive national title and went on to win bronze at the 1977 World Championships in Tokyo. It was the first time that a Japanese representative stood on the world podium in any figure skating discipline. Japan would not win another world medal in men's singles until 2002 (bronze for Takeshi Honda). Sano subsequently retired from competition and turned professional. In 1978, he founded "Viva! Ronald "Ron" Shaver (born June 16, 1951 in Galt, Ontario) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time Skate Canada International champion and the 1977 Canadian national champion. Career Shaver won the novice title at the 1966 Canadian Championships, the first year that level was contested at the national championships. After winning the senior silver medal at the 1973 Canadian Nationals, he was sent to Bratislava, Czechoslovakia to compete at his first World Championships; he finished eighth overall after placing 12th in figures, sixth in the short program, and fourth in the free skate. Terry Kubicka (born April 3, 1956) is an American retired figure skater who is known as the first American to perform the difficult triple Lutz jump. Gordon Riley "Gordie" McKellen Jr. (born August 26, 1953) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is the 1973–75 U.S. national champion and placed tenth at the 1972 Winter Olympics. Personal life McKellen was born on August 26, 1953, in Reading, Pennsylvania.
