1974–75 Washington Capitals Season
The 1974–75 Washington Capitals season was the first in Capitals history. Along with the Kansas City Scouts, the Capitals joined the National Hockey League as an expansion team for the 1974–75 season. The team was owned by Abe Pollin, owner of the NBA's Washington Bullets. Pollin had built the Capital Centre in suburban Landover, Maryland, to house both the Bullets (who formerly played in Baltimore) and the Capitals. His first act as owner was to hire Hall of Famer Milt Schmidt as general manager. The team's record of 8–67–5 is the worst individual season in the history of the NHL. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Dave Kryskow
David Roy Kryskow (born December 25, 1951) is a Canadian former ice hockey player. Originally drafted by the Chicago Black Hawks in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft, Kryskow played in Chicago for parts of two seasons. Left exposed for the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft, he was claimed by the Washington Capitals. After playing only 51 games for the Capitals, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. He would also play for the Atlanta Flames. Ron Low
Ronald Albert Low (born June 21, 1950) is a Canadian former ice hockey goaltender and coach. He played in the National Hockey League with six teams between 1972 and 1985. After retiring he became a coach and was head coach of Edmonton Oilers from 1995 to 1999 and the New York Rangers from 2000 to 2002. Low grew up in Foxwarren, Manitoba. Brian Kinsella
Brian Edward Kinsella (February 11, 1954 – October 14, 2018) was a Canadians, Canadian ice hockey player. Drafted in 1974 by the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and Phoenix Roadrunners (WHA), Phoenix Roadrunners of the World Hockey Association, Kinsella played ten games in the NHL and played most of his professional hockey career in the minors. He is also known by many as "The Big Bear Cat." Kinsella was born in Barrie, Ontario. In addition to his playing career, Kinsella was head coach of St. Francis de Sales High School (Toledo, Ohio), St. Francis de Sales School hockey team from 2007-2012. Kinsella retired after guiding St. Francis for five seasons and leading the team to its first hockey state title in school history in 2011.
