The 1974–75 Scottish Inter-District Championship was a rugby union competition for Scotland's district teams.Forsyth's Rugby Record. pub. R. W. Forsyth Princes Street, Edinburgh & Renfield Street, Glasgow. 1974. This season saw the 22nd Scottish Inter-District Championship. North and Midlands and Glasgow District shared the competition with 2 wins and 1 loss. The SRU allowed substitutes to be used in inter-district matches. North And Midlands
North and Midlands - and now known as Caledonia - is a select provincial amateur rugby union team that draws its players mainly from north of Scotland, roughly corresponding from around Stirling northwards. Historically the North and Midlands team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. When the professional Caledonia Reds provincial side folded in 1998, the North and Midlands amateur district was resurrected and renamed Caledonia. The team played as Caledonia in three seasons of an amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship from 1999 to 2002. The amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship was revived for 2022-23 season, and the Caledonia district now plays there. The Caledonia region also still plays at age-grade. Jim Aitken (born 22 November 1947) is a British businessman and former Scotland national rugby union team, Scotland international rugby union player. His regular playing position was Prop. Richie Dixon
Richie Dixon (born c. 1947) is a former rugby union footballer, the former head coach of the Scotland national team, the Georgia national team and Glasgow Caledonians (now known as Glasgow Warriors). He was head of Physical Education at Currie High School in Edinburgh from 1972 until 1980. Playing career Amateur career Born in Chirnside, Berwickshire, Dixon played for Jordanhill. Provincial career As a rugby player he was to captain Glasgow District; the side that was later to become the Glasgow Warriors on professionalism. Michael Hunter (born 24 April 1945) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career He played for Glasgow HSFP. Provincial career He played for Glasgow District. He was part of the Glasgow side that shared the 1974–75 Scottish Inter-District Championship with North and Midlands. He played for Scotland Possibles on the trial match against the Scotland Probables side on 11 January 1975. He replaced Jordanhill's Andy Dougall in the centre. It was a strange trial; instead of playing 2 halves of 40 minutes, they played 3 thirds of 30 minutes each. David Shedden
David Shedden (24 May 1944 in Kilwinning – 27 October 2017 in Linwood) was a Scotland international rugby union footballer, who played on the wing. He died in October 2017 aged 73. Rugby Union career Amateur career Shedden went to Spier's School in Beith. His PE teacher was Campbell Bone, an enlightened and passionate rugby coach in Ayrshire.
