1974–75 San Antonio Spurs Season
The 1974–75 San Antonio Spurs season was the second season for the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs made their debut on October 18, 1974, vs the Indiana Pacers in Indiana, winning 129–121 in double overtime. Afterwards, the Spurs would win the next two games, getting to a quick start. In December they would be 21–18 after finishing 7–10 in the month (with a 5 gaming losing streak at one point and even firing their coach midway in the season), but they would win 30 of their last 45 games (having 7-game winning streak at one point), finishing with over 50 victories for the first time in Spurs history. In the 1975 ABA Playoffs, the Spurs once again lost in the first round 4–2 to the Indiana Pacers. Tom Nissalke
Thomas Edward Nissalke (July 7, 1932 – August 22, 2019) was an American professional basketball coach in the National Basketball Association and American Basketball Association. He coached several teams in both leagues, and had an overall coaching record of 371–508. Coaching career After a season with the Dallas Chaparrals (where he won ABA coach of the Year), Nissalke moved to the NBA with the Sonics for one season. He returned to the team, now in San Antonio, in 1973, bringing with him "a patterned, deliberate offense to San Antonio". During his tenure, the "Iceman" George Gervin had arrived from the Virginia Squires and was the center of the team. Though Nissalke's club was successful, he was fired in the beginning of the 1974–75 ABA season. The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio. 1974–75 ABA Season
The 1974–75 ABA season was the eighth season of the American Basketball Association. The Kentucky Colonels won the 1975 ABA Championship after winning the Eastern Division; the Denver Nuggets won the Western Division. Julius Erving and George McGinnis shared the league's MVP award. Preseason Prior to the start of the season the Eastern Division changed as the Memphis Tams gave way to the Memphis Sounds and the Carolina Cougars were bought by Ozzie and Daniel Silna and relocated and became the Spirits of St. Louis. The Western Division remained unchanged save for the Denver Rockets renaming themselves the Denver Nuggets. The ABA and NBA continued playing preseason exhibition games between their teams. The San Antonio Spurs are a professional basketball team based in San Antonio that competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA). In 1967, the franchise was founded in Dallas, Texas as the Dallas Chaparrals--one of the eleven charter franchises of the American Basketball Association (ABA). During the 1970–71 season, in an attempt to make the team a regional one, the franchise renamed itself the Texas Chaparrals; also, some home games were played in Fort Worth and Lubbock. Donnie Freeman
Donald E. Freeman (born July 18, 1944) is an American former professional basketball player. He spent eight seasons (1967–1975) in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and one season ( 1975–1976) in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Freeman was the youngest of four children. High school and college career A 6'3" guard, Freeman attended Madison High School and the University of Illinois. At Illinois, he scored 1449 points and averaged 20.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game over his three varsity seasons. After finishing his college career as the most prolific scorer in Illinois history, he now ranks 12th all-time in Illinois scoring, and set a record for most points in a season (668), averaging 27.8 in 1965–66. Utah Stars
The Utah Stars were an American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Under head coach Bill Sharman the Stars were the first major professional basketball team to use a pre-game shootaround. History prior to moving to Utah (1967–1970) The team was founded as the Anaheim Amigos, a charter member of the ABA based in Anaheim, California. They played at the Anaheim Convention Center. The team's colors were orange and black. The Anaheim Amigos were founded by Art Kim, a Hawaii native who had long been active in basketball as a player, Amateur Athletic Union administrator and owner. Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets are an American professional basketball team based in Denver. The Nuggets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference Northwest Division. The team was founded as the Denver Larks in 1967 as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association (ABA), but changed their name to Rockets before the first season. The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis. The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Central Division. Bob Bass
Robert Eugene Bass (January 28, 1929 – August 17, 2018) was an American basketball coach and executive who worked in college basketball, the American Basketball Association (ABA), and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Coaching career Education Bass graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and has a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma. Professional basketball Bass' professional coaching career started with the ABA's Denver Rockets (now the Denver Nuggets) in 1967, which he coached for two years. He coached college basketball at Texas Tech for a season-and-a-half from 1969 to 1971. He coached The Floridians of the ABA for two years before the team folded at the end of the 1972 season.
