West Division (NHL)
The West Division of the National Hockey League existed from 1967 until 1974 when the league realigned into two conferences of two divisions each. The division was reformed for the 2020–21 NHL season (and branded as the Honda West Division for sponsorship reasons) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 1967 the NHL doubled in size, going from six teams to twelve. The Original Six, as the pre-1967 teams became retroactively known, were grouped into the East Division, while the expansion teams were placed into the West Division. This was done in order to keep teams of similar competitive strength in the same division, regardless of geographic distance, and to ensure playoff revenue for the new franchises. Buffalo Memorial Auditorium
Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, colloquially known as The Aud, was a multipurpose indoor arena in downtown Buffalo, New York. Opened on October 14, 1940, it was home to the Canisius Golden Griffins (NCAA), the Buffalo Bisons ( AHL), the Buffalo Bisons ( NBL), the Buffalo Braves (NBA), the Buffalo Sabres (NHL), the Toronto-Buffalo Royals ( WTT), the Buffalo Stallions ( MSL), the Buffalo Bandits (MILL), the Buffalo Blizzard ( NPSL) and the Buffalo Stampede ( RHI). Boston Garden
The Boston Garden was an arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Designed by boxing promoter Tex Rickard, who also built the third iteration of New York's Madison Square Garden, it opened on November 17, 1928, as "Boston Madison Square Garden" (later shortened to just "Boston Garden") and outlived its original namesake by 30 years. It was above North Station, a train station which was originally a hub for the Boston and Maine Railroad and is now a hub for MBTA Commuter Rail and Amtrak trains. The Garden hosted home games for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA), as well as rock concerts, amateur sports, boxing and professional wrestling matches, circuses, and ice shows. Adams Division
The NHL's Adams Division was formed in 1974 as part of the Prince of Wales Conference. The division existed for 19 seasons until 1993. It was named in honour of Charles Francis Adams, the founder of the Boston Bruins. It is the forerunner of the NHL's Northeast Division, which later became the Atlantic Division. Dick Redmond
Richard John Redmond (born August 14, 1949) is a Canadian former professional National Hockey League (NHL) defenceman. He featured in the 1973 Stanley Cup Finals with the Chicago Blackhawks. He is the son of former Allan Cup winner Eddie Redmond and the brother of former NHL player and Red Wings broadcaster Mickey Redmond. He was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, but grew up in Peterborough, Ontario Redmond played minor ice hockey in Peterborough, and went to the 1962 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with his youth team. He played 13 seasons in the NHL, beginning as a first-round draft pick with the Minnesota North Stars in 1969. He was traded in 1970 to the California Golden Seals, and from there he was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks in 1972. Cliff Koroll
Clifford Eugene Koroll (born October 1, 1946) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey Winger (ice hockey), right winger who played for the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League between 1969–70 NHL season, 1969 and 1979–80 NHL season, 1980. He played in two Stanley Cup Finals with the Black Hawks (1971 Stanley Cup Finals, 1971 and 1973 Stanley Cup Finals, 1973). California Golden Seals
The California Golden Seals were a professional ice hockey club that competed in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1967 to 1976. Based in Oakland, California, they played their home games at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. The Seals were one of six teams added to the league as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. Initially named the California Seals, the team was renamed the Oakland Seals during the 1967–68 season and then the Bay Area Seals in 1970 before becoming the California Golden Seals the same year. The Seals were the least successful of the teams added in the 1967 expansion, never garnering a winning record and only making the playoffs twice in nine seasons of play. Ivan Boldirev
Ivan Boldirev (Serbian Cyrillic: Иван Болдирев; born August 15, 1949) is a Serbian Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Boldirev played fifteen seasons and over 1000 games in the NHL from 1970 through 1985. Boldirev was noted during his career as one of the sport's best stickhandlers.
