1974 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 1974 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. They took place between 14–20 August 1974 on a temporary velodrome at the Université de Montréal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Eleven events were contested, 9 for men (3 for professionals, 6 for amateurs) and 2 for women. Cees Stam
Cees Stam (born 2 November 1945 in Koog aan de Zaan) is a former Dutch track cyclist and four-time world champion stayer. Cees Stam was almost exclusively active as a stayer and at six-day races. In 1968 he became Dutch champion amateur stayer, which feat he would repeat seven times, both as an amateur and as a professional (from 1971 on). In 1968 and 1969 he came in second at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships, but in 1970 he won his first (amateur) world title, with Joop Stakenburg as pacer. Stakenburg also paced him to a professional world championship in both 1973 and 1974, while in 1977 Stam won his fourth world champion paced by Bruno Walrave. Stam came in second in 1972, 1975 and 1976 and third in 1978 and 1979, so that he was on the podium for 8 consecutive years. He also won the European championships twice. Thomas Huschke
Thomas Huschke (born 29 December 1947) is a retired East German cyclist. He competed at the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics in the 4000m individual and team pursuit events. He won a silver team medal in 1972 and an individual bronze medal in 1976, where his team also finished in fourth place overall. Between 1970 and 1975 he won one gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the same two events at world championships. As a road racer, he finished third in the Tour of Belgium in 1972, and won one stage of the Peace Race in 1973. After retiring from competitions he received a degree in economics, and later briefly worked as a marketing expert of the East German Gymnastics and Sports Association. Anton Tkáč (30 March 1951 – 22 December 2022) was a Slovak track cyclist who claimed the gold medal for Czechoslovakia in the men's Match Sprint event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada when in the final he defeated eight-time World Champion Frenchman Daniel Morelon. In this discipline he also won two World titles, in 1974 in Montreal and in 1978 in Munich, Germany.
