1974 French Open – Mixed Doubles
Martina Navratilova and Iván Molina defeated Rosie Reyes Darmon and Marcello Lara in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the mixed doubles tennis title at the 1974 French Open. It was the first major for both Molina and Navratilova. For Navratilova, it was the first of an eventual ten mixed doubles major titles, and the first of an eventual Open Era record 59 major titles overall. Françoise Dürr and Jean-Claude Barclay were the defending champions, but Dürr did not compete this year. Barclay partnered Julie Heldman Julie Heldman (born December 8, 1945) is an American tennis player who won 22 singles titles. In 1969 and 1974, she was ranked as the world No. 5. Martina Navratilova ( cs, Martina Navrátilová ; ; born October 18, 1956) is a Czech–American, former professional tennis player. Widely considered among the greatest tennis players of all time, Navratilova won 18 major singles titles, 31 major women's doubles titles, and 10 major mixed doubles titles, for a combined total of 59 major titles, the most in the Open Era. Odile de Roubin (born 28 September 1948) is a former professional tennis player from France. Biography As a junior, de Roubin won the girls' singles title at the 1966 French Championships. During the 1970s she competed on the professional tour, making regular appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon Championships. Her best performance came at the 1973 French Open, where she won her way through to the quarter-finals, beating third seed Virginia Wade en route. William Brown (tennis)
William Brown (born January 14, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a retired professional tennis player from the United States. The right-hander was active during the 1970s and 1980s, and won four doubles titles on the tour: the 1973 Omaha Open, 1975 American Airlines Tennis Games (Tucson), 1975 at Shreveport and the 1976 Columbus Open. Tennis career Early career Brown attended Creighton Prep High School was undefeated in high school, winning city and state championships from 1960 to 1963. During his senior year of high school, Brown not only won every match on his way to winning the state high school championships, he did not drop a single set. He attended the University of Notre Dame on a tennis scholarship. As senior, he was named a "first team all-American" in 1967. Dianne Fromholtz Balestrat (née Fromholtz; born 10 August 1956) is an Australian former professional tennis player who reached a highest singles ranking of world No. 4 in 1979. Career Fromholtz began playing tennis at the age of seven. She left school at the age of 16 to play in international tournaments. She turned pro in 1973 and joined the WTA Tour. Omar Laimina (born 1952) is a Moroccan former professional tennis player. Born and raised in Casablanca, Laimina won 20 rubbers for Morocco during his Davis Cup career, which spanned 1972 to 1983. He also served as non playing captain of the team in the early 1990s. Laimina, who recorded a best singles ranking of 166, featured in multiple editions of the French Open. Monique Van Haver (born 31 August 1948) is a Belgian former professional tennis player. Biography Van Haver was a regular member of the Belgium Fed Cup team, Belgium Federation Cup team throughout the 1970s. She featured in a total of 30 ties during her career, with a 22/28 overall win–loss record from 50 matches. Her doubles partnership with Michèle Gurdal resulted in 11 Federation Cup wins and is Belgium's most successful. The pair made the women's doubles quarter-finals together at the 1976 French Open.
