1974 Chatham Cup
The 1974 Chatham Cup was the 47th annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Early stages of the competition were run in three regions, with the National League teams receiving a bye until the later stages of the competition. In all, 114 teams took part in the competition, at that time a record number. Note: Different sources give different numberings for the rounds of the competition: some start round one with the beginning of the regional qualifications; others start numbering from the first national knock-out stage. The former numbering scheme is used in this article. A change was made in the way tied matches were decided, with penalty shoot-outs introduced in the event of ties after extra time. Replays were still used for the later rounds, with a replay being needed in one semi-final. Queen Elizabeth II Park
Queen Elizabeth II Park was a multi-use stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand, located in a large park of the same name. The stadium had a capacity of 25,000 people and was built in 1973 to host the 1974 British Commonwealth Games, with a temporary 10,000 seat western stand erected for that event to take the capacity to 35,000. The stadium suffered some damage in the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake but was able to reopen, only to be damaged beyond repair in February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Melville United AFC is an amateur football club in Melville, Hamilton, New Zealand. It competes in the Northern League. History The club was formed in 1996 from the merger of Melville AFC (founded 1972) and Waikato United (founded 1988). The team play at Gower Park, which was previously home to Melville United, and before that Melville AFC. Invercargill Thistle also known as Thistle FC is an established football club based in the South Island city of Invercargill. The team was founded in 1936 and currently have 13 teams from Men's premier, Women's, and Junior divisions. During the 1960s Thistle was one of the southern South Island's stronger teams, reaching the semi-finals of the Chatham Cup on two occasions, in 1967 and 1969. Three Kings United Football Club is a youth football club based in Three Kings, Auckland, New Zealand. They previously competed in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1, with their last appearance coming in 2019. In 2020, Three Kings United merged with Onehunga Sports to form Auckland United, which assumed Onehunga's position in the 2020 NRFL Premier season; the club's youth and social sectors remain in operation. Three Kings' home ground is Keith Hay Park, with a number of other parks used around central Auckland. Fencibles United AFC is an amateur association football club, they currently compete in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 2. The club is based in Howick/ Pakuranga, Auckland. The clubs roots go back to Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC. History In 1995, two East Auckland clubs, Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC, amalgamated to form Fencibles United AFC. Western A.F.C. is a semi-professional association football club in Christchurch, New Zealand. They compete in the Robbie's Premier Football League. History 1913–1920 Western A.F.C kicked off in 1913 when a small group of keen soccer players at West Christchurch District High School decided to start a team. The few boys who had played soccer at primary school trained the rest of the team, many of whom had never even seen soccer played before. They challenged St. Bedes for their first game, and in so doing, defied and angered the headmaster, who threatened to expel one of their organisers, Jim Barr. Halswell United
Halswell United is an amateur association football club based in Christchurch, New Zealand in the suburb of Halswell. They will compete in the New World Mainland Premier League. The club was founded in 1964 as Halswell United Soccer, changing its name in 1999 when the national body officially changed its title to include the word football, and it is one of the largest clubs in the South Island, with over 900 members. History The club was formed in March and April 1964, with meetings at the Halswell Scouts Hall, which were on the site now occupied by the club's rooms. Gisborne Thistle
Gisborne Thistle AFC is an association football club based in the city of Gisborne, in the North Island of New Zealand. For many years, the club played second-fiddle to neighbours Gisborne City (with whom they share the Childers Road Reserve ground). Their record includes appearances in the latter rounds of the Chatham Cup on numerous occasions, their best performances coming in 1970 and 1971 when they reached the fifth round. Thistle joined the Central Federation League in 2005, winning the competition that same season and reached the Central League playoffs losing to Stop Out. East Coast Bays (soccer)
East Coast Bays is a football club located on Auckland's North Shore. The club has won the Chatham Cup and the NRFL Premier Division three times. History East Coast Bays were founded following a public meeting held at the Progressive Hall (since demolished and replaced by the Bays Club) in October 1958. The committee formed from this meeting entered four junior teams for the start of the 1959 season. As some of the committee members were supporters of Glasgow Rangers, the colours of Royal Blue shirts, white shorts, and royal Blue sox were adopted. East Coast Bays picked The Maxwell Farm as its ground with the pitch running north to south. The old Progress Hall on the site was adapted to serve as clubrooms. Ellerslie AFC is an association football club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The senior team currently competes in the NRFL Championship. Club history Ellerslie AFC’s history goes back to the original founding of the Auckland Football Association in 1887, whereby it was one of the seven clubs to participate in the Association’s inaugural competition. The Club continued into the second season of organised soccer in Auckland, but, like the playing of the game at that time, did not continue past that point. Manurewa AFC is an amateur football (soccer) club in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand. They will compete in Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1 with newly appointed head coach Marty Rodwell History Manurewa AFC was formed by the merger of Tramways ( 1929 Chatham Cup winner) and another club named Manurewa. The merged entity initially used the portmanteau name of Tramurewa, during which time the club won the 1931 Chatham Cup. Tramuwera reverted to the name of Manurewa in 1959, the name currently used by the club. Manurewa competed in the New Zealand National Soccer League from 1979 to 1992, finishing as champions in 1983.
