Bexley London Borough Council
Bexley London Borough Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Bexley in the ceremonial county of Greater London, England. It is one of 32 London borough councils in the county. The council comprises 45 councillors. History There have previously been a number of local authorities responsible for the Bexley area. The current local authority was first elected in 1964, a year before formally coming into its powers and prior to the creation of the London Borough of Bexley. Bexley replaced the Municipal Boroughs of Bexley and Erith, Crayford Urban District and part of Chislehurst and Sidcup Urban District. It was envisaged that through the London Government Act 1963, Bexley as a London local authority would share power with the Greater London Council. Thamesmead is an area of south-east London, England, straddling the border between the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the London Borough of Bexley. It is located east of Charing Cross, north-east of Woolwich and west of Erith. It mainly consists of social housing built from the mid-1960s onwards on former marshland on the south bank of the River Thames.
