1974 Baltimore Colts Season
The 1974 Baltimore Colts season was the 22nd season for the team in the National Football League. The Colts finished with a record of 2 wins and 12 losses, fifth in the AFC East. Second-year head coach Howard Schnellenberger was fired after three games, after an argument with owner Robert Irsay over whether Marty Domres or Bert Jones should start at quarterback for the Colts. General manager Joe Thomas took over the head coaching duties for the remainders of the season, but could direct the team to only two wins, both on the road, as the Colts failed to win a home game during the 1974 season. This would be the last time the Colts would fail to win a home game in a non-strike season until their abysmal 1–15 1991 season, when the team was based in Indianapolis. American Football Conference East Division
The American Football Conference – Eastern Division or AFC East is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). John Dutton (defensive Lineman)
John Owen Dutton (born February 6, 1951) is a former football defensive lineman in the National Football League for the Baltimore Colts and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Nebraska. Early years Born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, Dutton attended Cathedral High School, where the football team was undefeated in his junior year. After the school closed in the fall of 1968, he transferred to Central High School and led the Cobblers to the state Class A basketball title in his senior year (1969). Dutton was a two-time All-state selection in basketball and football. He received high school All-American recognition in both sports as a senior and was also an accomplished Discus thrower. In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center (American football), center and the offensive tackle, tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for Blocking (American football), blocking. Robert Pratt (American Football)
Robert Pratt (born May 25, 1951 in Richmond, Virginia) is a former American football guard in the National Football League. He graduated from St. Christopher’s School in 1970 where he garnered All Prep League honors. College career Robert Pratt earned a scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he played for Head Coach Bill Dooley. He was a three-year starter at left tackle and was an All American and All ACC selection. His team won two ACC Championships in 1971 and 1972. The 1972 team achieved the school's first 11-1 season culminating in a Sun Bowl victory against Texas Tech. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. Fred Cook (American Football)
Fred Harrison Cook III (born April 15, 1952) is a former American football player. He played defensive end for the History of the Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Colts from 1974 through 1980. High School and college Cook played high school football for Our Lady of Victory in Mississippi, and to date is the only player from that school to make it to the pro level. Cook played college football for Southern Mississippi. Upon entering the university, Cook was one of the first African-Americans to play for the football program. After playing well on the freshman team, Cook was promoted to the varsity football team. He was a starter as a sophomore, ending the season with 68 tackles and 18 quarterback sacks, both school records. Graduation took apart the front line, as Cook was the lone returning starter for the 1972 season. The 1973 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs football team represented Louisiana Tech University during the 1973 NCAA Division II football season, and completed the 71st season of Bulldogs football and their first as members of the reorganized NCAA Division II. The Bulldogs played their home games in at Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, Louisiana.
