1973–74 S.S. Lazio Season
During the 1973–74 season S.S. Lazio competed in Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup. Summary Back to Serie A in 1973, Lazio immediately emerged as surprise challengers for the ''Scudetto'' to Milan and Juventus previous season, only losing out on the final day of the season, with a team comprising captain Giuseppe Wilson, as well as midfielders Luciano Re Cecconi and Mario Frustalupi, striker Giorgio Chinaglia who led the top Italian league in scoring with 24 goals, and head coach Tommaso Maestrelli. Giuseppe Wilson
Giuseppe Wilson (, born Joseph Wilson, 27 October 1945 – 6 March 2022), also known as Pino Wilson, was an Italian footballer who played as a centre back. Although born in Northern England, he played the majority of his football career in Italy. At club level Wilson played for Internapoli and Lazio, as well as representing the Italy national team three times in 1974. Wilson was one of 15 named in the Italian football betting scandal in 1980 (along with Bruno Giordano, Massimo Cacciatori and Lionello Manfredonia, in the first instance). Giorgio Chinaglia
Giorgio Chinaglia (; 24 January 1947 – 1 April 2012) was an Italian footballer who played as a striker. He grew up and played his early football in Cardiff, Wales, and began his career with Swansea Town in 1964. He later returned to Italy to play for Massese, Internapoli and S.S. Lazio in 1969. Chinaglia led Lazio to the club's first league championship in the 1973–74 season, during which he was also the league's leading scorer. He played international football for Italy, making 14 appearances and scoring 4 goals between 1972 and 1975, including two appearances at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Chinaglia was the first player in Italian football history to be called up internationally from the second division. In 1976, Chinaglia left Lazio to sign with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League. Sergio Petrelli (born July 27, 1944 in Ascoli Piceno) is a former Italian professional footballer who played as a defender. He played for 8 seasons (138 games, 10 goals) in the Serie A for Hellas Verona F.C., A.S. Roma and S.S. Lazio. During the season when he won the championship with Lazio, on the night before the Derby della Capitale game against A.S.
