93rd United States Congress
The 93rd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, DC from January 3, 1973, to January 3, 1975, during the last 18 months of Richard Nixon's presidency, and the first 6 months of Gerald Ford's. This Congress was the first (and, to date, only) Congress with more than two Senate Presidents (the Vice President of the United States), in this case, three. After the resignation of Spiro Agnew, Gerald Ford was appointed under the authority of the newly ratified 25th Amendment. Ford became president the next year and Nelson Rockefeller was appointed in his place. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Nineteenth Census of the United States in 1970. Both chambers had a Democratic majority. Lawrence Joseph Sarsfield Daly (January 22, 1912 – April 17, 1978), a.k.a. Lar "America First" Daly, was a fringe American politician who ran unsuccessfully for a variety of political offices (including President of the United States), often campaigning wearing an Uncle Sam suit. Daly was a Republican primary candidate for Governor of Illinois in both 1956 and 1964. He was also a primary candidate for Mayor of Chicago in 1959, for both the Democratic and Republican parties, and also ran in the Republican primary in the 1963 and 1967 Chicago mayoral elections. Cardiss Collins
Cardiss Hortense Collins (; September 24, 1931 – February 3, 2013) was an American politician from Illinois who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1973 to 1997. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the fourth African-American woman in Congress and the first to represent the Midwest. Collins was elected to Congress in the June 5, 1973 special election to replace her husband, George, who had died in the December 8, 1972 United Airlines Flight 553 plane crash a month after being elected to a second term. The seat had been renumbered and combined from the 6th district to the 7th, and had been redrawn to include the Loop. She had previously worked as an accountant in various state government positions. 1970 Illinois's 6th Congressional District Special Election
The 1970 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives held on November 3, 1970, in the middle of Richard M. Nixon's first term as president. His party, the Republican Party, lost a net of 12 seats to the Democratic Party, which thereby increased its majority in the House. Many viewed the results of the 1970 election as an indication of public fatigue over the ongoing Vietnam War as well as the fallout from the Kent State Massacre. This was the first House election in which all 50 states used a single-member-district system to elect representatives instead of using at-large congressional districts. Frederick C. Malkus Jr. (July 1, 1913 – November 9, 1999) was a Democratic state legislator from Maryland. Robert E. Bauman (born April 4, 1937) is an American lawyer and politician. He is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Maryland's 1st congressional district (1973–1981). Bauman was a prominent conservative advocate in the House, legal counsel for The Sovereign Society, and author of financial books. Early life and career Robert Edmund Bauman was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to an unwed single mother. When a teenager, Bauman moved to Easton, Maryland, where he attended Easton High School until 1953. In 1955, he graduated from the Capitol Page School at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. William Oswald Mills Sr. (August 12, 1924 – May 24, 1973), was a Republican U.S. congressman who represented the 1st Congressional district of Maryland from May 25, 1971 until his death in Easton, Maryland on May 24, 1973. Life and career Mills was born in Bethlehem, Maryland on August 12, 1924. He attended Caroline County, Maryland public schools, after graduating from Federalsburg High School in 1941, he then pursued military service.
