1973 MacDonald Brier
The 1973 Macdonald Brier, the Canadian men's national curling championship was held from March 5 to 11, 1973 at the Klondike Gardens in Edmonton, Alberta. The total attendance for the week was 37,575. The event was memorable for having particularly bad ice conditions, considered by some as the "worst (Brier ice) ever manufactured". There was a great thickness of frost on the ice, which was also dotted by tiny pools of water. Despite not being considered favorites, Team Saskatchewan, who was skipped by Harvey Mazinke adapted best to the poor ice conditions and captured the Brier tankard as they finished round robin play with a 9–1 record. This was Saskatchewan's sixth Brier title overall and the only title that Mazinke skipped. Mazinke's rink would go onto represent Canada in the 1973 Air Canada Silver Broom, the men's world curling championship on home soil in Regina, Saskatchewan where they won the silver medal. Jim Armstrong (curler)
James P. Armstrong (born June 30, 1950) is a former Canadian curler and wheelchair curler now living in Ontario. He was a successful able-bodied curler for much of his career until he had to stop playing because of bad knees and a car accident in 2003. Career Curling career Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Armstrong began curling at eight, and by the age of 22 he made his first Brier, playing second for British Columbia, skipped by Jack Tucker. The team finished 5–5 at that 1973 MacDonald Brier. Armstrong skipped B.C. in the following Brier, placing third with a 6–4 record. Armstrong wouldn't make another Brier for 9 years, when he played third for Bernie Sparkes at the 1983 Labatt Brier. Bernie Sparkes
Bernard Leslie Sparkes (born October 15, 1940) is a former world champion curler. Sparkes's first major curling championship success came when he won the 1957 Alberta Schoolboys.. He would later go on to win 4 Alberta (1966, 1967, 1968, 1969) championships and 3 Canadian Brier and World Championships (1966, 1968, 1969) He was voted all star second at 4 consecutive Briers as the second for the Ron Northcott team. Jack Tucker (curler)
Jack Robert Tucker (born 13 November 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for EFL League Two club Milton Keynes Dons. Club career Gillingham Tucker joined the academy of Gillingham as a seven-year old from his hometown club Whitstable Town. Having progressed through the academy system, he made his league debut for the club on 8 October 2017 as a 45th-minute substitute in a 1–0 defeat to Portsmouth, and soon after signed professional terms in January 2018. Richmond Winter Club
The Richmond Curling Centre is an eight-sheet curling facility in Richmond, British Columbia that is the home of the Richmond Curling Club. The club is located on Hollybridge Way in the Richmond City Centre neighbourhood of the city. The club was founded in 1958, with the first organizational meeting held on October 8 of that year. One week later a 3.4-acre plot of land was bought on Cambie Road for $200,000. The club was finally opened on January 1, 1961, as the Richmond Winter Club with plans to expand the facility to include skating and racket sports. Later that year the Richmond Ladies Curling Club was also founded. In 1963 a lounge was added to the building and in 1965 a parking lot was added.
