The Europe Zone was one of the three regional zones of the 1973 Davis Cup. 31 teams entered the Europe Zone, competing across 2 sub-zones. 14 teams competed in the preliminary rounds, with the winners progressing to the main draw and joining the remaining 17 teams. The winners of each sub-zone went on to compete in the Inter-Zonal Zone against the winners of the 1973 Davis Cup Americas Zone, Americas Zone and 1973 Davis Cup Eastern Zone, Eastern Zone. 1973 Davis Cup
The 1973 Davis Cup was the 62nd edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 53 teams entered the competition, 31 in the Europe Zone, 12 in the Americas Zone, and 10 in the Eastern Zone. For the first time, preliminary rounds were used in every zone, effectively giving byes through the first two rounds of competition to the previous year's finalists from the American and Eastern zones, and to the previous year's semifinalists from the European zones. This year's competition also marked the first time that professional tennis players were allowed to compete. The United States defeated Chile in the Americas Inter-Zonal final, Australia defeated India in the Eastern Zone final, and Czechoslovakia and Romania were the winners of the two Europe Zones, defeating the Soviet Union and Italy respectively. Nicolas Kelaidis
Nicolas Kelaidis (born 29 October 1949) is a Greek former professional tennis player. Biography Kelaidis was born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, which had a large Greek population at the time. He played college tennis in the United States, at Clemson University from 1968 to 1971. During the 1970s, Kelaidis competed on the professional tennis circuit and was a regular member of the Greece Davis Cup team, featuring in a total of 10 ties. He appeared in the main draws of the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. For most of the 1980s he was a coach for the Swiss Tennis Federation, then spent a decade coaching for the French Federation, with his roles at both focusing on women's tennis. George Berner
George Luis Sören Berner (born 4 April 1944) is a former tennis player from Finland. Tennis career Berner attended college in the United States at Davidson College in North Carolina during 1967 and 1968. Berner was a regular member of the Finland Davis Cup team for the period 1969 to 1981. He made his debut in the 1969 Europe Zone A first round tie against Sweden. His last appearance was as a doubles player in the 1981 Europe Zone B semi-final against the Netherlands. Berner played in twenty Davis Cup singles rubbers, ten of which he won, and he also played in ten doubles rubbers, with two wins. Berner participated in the Wimbledon qualifying draw on two occasions, in 1969 and 1972, with a best effort in reaching the second round of qualifying in 1972. Peter Jackson (22 September 1934 — 10 October 2014) was an Irish international tennis player originating from Northern Ireland. Raised in Belfast, UK, Jackson was a junior rugby representative for Ulster before settling on tennis. He attended the Belfast Royal Academy and played his tennis at thWindsor Lawn Tennis Club although he began his career with Cavehill. Thorvald Moe (born 4 October 1939) is a Norwegian former tennis player, economist and civil servant. He was born in Oslo. He was appointed Director General ( no, ekspedisjonssjef) in the Ministry of Finance (Norway), Ministry of Finance from 1978 to 1986, from 1989 to 1997, and from 2002. He served as Norwegian ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) from 1986 to 1989, and vice secretary general of the OECD from 1998 to 2002. He represented Bestum IF and won the national championship in tennis men's single in 1959, 1961, 1962 and 1967. Per Hegna
Per Hegna (born 22 July 1945) is a Norwegian former professional tennis player. A native of Oslo, Hegna played out of the Berg Tennisklubb and won 26 national championships, including eight outdoor and six indoor singles titles. His Davis Cup career for Norway started in 1962 but most of his appearances came in the period of 1973 to 1983. He featured in 17 ties, for 15 wins across singles and doubles.
