Avenir Club Avignonnais, known simply as Avignon, is a football club based in the city of Avignon, France. The club notably competed in the Division 1 in the 1975–76 season. History The club was founded in 1931 as Association Sportive Avignonnaise and played professionally from 1942 until 1948. The club was later renamed Olympique Avignonnais in a merger with Saint-Jean and became professional again in 1965. In 1975, the team was promoted to Division 1, after winning a playoff match against FC Rouen. However, the 1975–1976 season was disastrous, as the club finished bottom with 20 Points, 7 victories, 6 draws, 25 defeats, with 30 goals scored and 80 goals conceded. The club was relegated from Division 2 in 1976 and had to forgo its professional status in 1981 due to financial problems. Delio Onnis (born 24 March 1948) is a former professional football player who played as striker. Born in Italy, his family emigrated to Argentina in his youth and he was nicknamed ''"El Tano"'' (the Italian) in Argentina. With 299 goals, he is the all-time top highest goalscorer in the history of Ligue 1 in France, and was the league's top scorer on five different occasions. He played the majority of his career for Stade de Reims, AS Monaco, Tours FC and Sporting Toulon Var. With Monaco he won one league title and one Coupe de France. Bernard Bosquier (born 19 June 1942 in Thonon-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie) is a French former international footballer who played as a defender. Career Bosquier came up from Olympique Alès, and signed with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in 1961, where he became an excellent defender playing at right back before moving to centre back later at Olympique Marseille. He quickly earned his first cap for France on 2 December 1964, aged 22, against Belgium. He was then part of France squad at the FIFA World Cup 1966 in England playing in all France's games. Coming back from the World Cup he signed with AS Saint-Étienne, where he won his first titles and was widely regarded as the best French footballer of the 1960s, winning the French player of the year award in 1967 & 1968. Roger Magnusson
Roger Magnusson (born 20 March 1945 in Mönsterås) is a Swedish former footballer who played as a right winger. He is a brother of fellow footballer Benno Magnusson. He played for the Sweden national team and for various clubs in Europe, including a short spell at Juventus FC. His most successful years were at Olympique de Marseille, where he formed a duo with striker Josip Skoblar winning the Ligue 1 in 1971 and 1972 and the Coupe de France in 1972. In the 1972 Coupe de France Final, he delivered two assists. He was known for his dribbling ability and nicknamed ''le Garrincha suédois'' (The Swedish Garrincha) in Marseille. Alain Richard (; born 29 August 1945) is a French politician who served as Minister of Defence from 1997 to 2002. A former member of the Socialist Party (PS), he joined La République En Marche! (LREM, later renamed Renaissance, RE) in 2017.
