1971 Ibrox Disaster
The 1971 Ibrox disaster was a crush among the crowd at an Old Firm football game, which led to 66 deaths and more than 200 injuries. It happened on 2 January 1971 in an exit stairway at Ibrox Park (now Ibrox Stadium) in Glasgow, Scotland. It was the worst British football disaster until the Hillsborough disaster in Sheffield, England, in 1989. The stadium's owner, Rangers F.C., was later ruled to be at fault in a sheriff's judgement on one of the deaths. Rangers did not dispute this ruling, and was sued for damages in 60 other cases brought by relatives of the dead. Background The first disaster at Ibrox occurred during a 1902 home international match between Scotland and England. Sparta Rotterdam () is a Dutch professional football club based in Rotterdam. Established on 1 April 1888, Sparta Rotterdam is the oldest professional football team in the Netherlands. Pat Davies (footballer)
Pat Davies (born 1955) is an English former footballer who played for England against Scotland on 18 November 1972, scoring two goals to complete England's 3–2 victory. She scored a hat-trick for Southampton Women's F.C. in their 4–1 victory over Stewarton Thistle in the final of the first Women's FA Cup in 1971. Davies is from Netley and despite being only tall, she became a prolific striker for Southampton WFC and England. She retired from playing in 1978 after becoming disillusioned with the lack of development in English women's football. Crystal Palace National Sports Centre
The National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace in south London, England is a large sports centre and outdoor athletics stadium. It was opened in 1964 in Crystal Palace Park, close to the site of the former Crystal Palace Exhibition building which had been destroyed by fire in 1936, and is on the same site as the former FA Cup Final venue which was used here between 1895 and 1914. The 1971 WFA Cup Final was the 1st final of the WFA Cup, England's primary cup competition for women's football teams. The showpiece event was played under the auspices of the Women's Football Association (WFA).
