Dutch Television
Television in the Netherlands was officially Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1951. In the Netherlands, the television market is divided between a number of commercial networks, such as RTL Nederland, and a system of public broadcasters sharing three channels, NPO 1, NPO 2, and NPO 3. Imported programmes (except those for children), as well as news interviews with responses in a foreign language, are almost always shown in their original language, with subtitles. Reception In the Netherlands, television can be watched analog or digital (the latter with the option of HDTV or Ultra-high-definition television, UHD). Over 2018, 89.2% of Dutch viewers received television digitally. Analogue television is only available via some cable operators and some fiber to the home providers, since the Dutch government ended analogue reception via airwaves in 2006. NOS Journaal
NOS Journaal is the umbrella name for the news broadcasts of the Dutch public broadcaster NOS on radio and television. The division of the NOS responsible for gathering and broadcasting the news is known as ''NOS Nieuws'', and is based at the Media Park in Hilversum; the NOS also has fully equipped radio and television studios in The Hague, from which political programmes are often produced. History On 5 January 1956, the Nederlandse Televise Stichting (Dutch Television Foundation, the forerunner of the NOS) broadcast the first ''NTS-journaal'' bulletin: initially, these were broadcast three times a week. Each edition lasted fifteen minutes, and had no presenter. From 3 October 1957, Coen van Hoewijk became the first newsreader of ''NTS-journaal'', and by extension, on Dutch television; the first female newsreader, Eugènie Herlaar, started in 1965. Pipo De Clown
Pipo de Clown is a character created by writer and artist Wim Meuldijk, which became famous as the lead character of a popular early Dutch television series also written by Meuldijk, and which was subsequently popularized in movies and on records. The best-known of Pipo-actors was Amsterdam actor , who played the part in the television series from 1958 to 1968 and from 1974 to 1980. The regular Pipo cast often performed in theaters and for company occasions. Pipo returned to the mainstream in the 2003 movie ''Pipo en de p-p-Parelridder'', and in the 2009-2010 theater season with the musical ''Pipo en de Gestolen Stem''. Wendy Van Dijk
Wendy van Dijk (born 22 January 1971) is a Dutch actress, comedian and television presenter. She is best known for her portrayal of Ushi Hirosaki, a hapless Japanese journalist featured in both a series of Dutch television shows and a theatrical film. Television Van Dijk was born in Weesp in 1971 as the daughter of a market trader. Between 1996 en 1998, she presented, together with Renate Scholten and Matthias Scholte the SBS program Over de . Sylvana Simons
Silvana Hildegard "Sylvana" Simons (born 31 January 1971) is a Surinamese-born Dutch politician and former television presenter. She has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2021 on behalf of BIJ1, an egalitarian anti-racist party founded by Simons in 2016. She was born in Suriname and moved to the Netherlands while an infant. She was a dancer in the Amsterdam nightlife scene before becoming a VJ for the new music channel TMF in 1995. Simons left four years later to join SBS Broadcasting, where she presented reality television series (2000). She subsequently spent almost a decade at RTL Nederland, hosting the first few seasons of (2001–05) about home buying and the Saturday evening show '' Dancing with the Stars'' (2005–07). Reinout Oerlemans (; born 10 June 1971) is a Dutch soap opera actor, film director, television presenter and television producer. He is the founder of the TV production company Eyeworks. In 1989, while studying law at the University of Amsterdam, Oerlemans was "plucked off the street" and cast as a lead in the first Dutch daily, prime time drama ''Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden''. After six years with the series, he became one of most successful TV personalities in the Netherlands, hosting a variety of entertainment shows including the first cycles of ''American Idol'' in the Netherlands.
