The 1970 Wisconsin gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 1970. Democrat Patrick Lucey won the election with 54% of the vote, winning his first term as Governor of Wisconsin and defeating Republican Jack B. Olson. Roman R. Blenski unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination. As of 2023, this is the last time the Democratic gubernatorial candidate carried Oconto County. Patrick Lucey
Patrick Joseph Lucey (March 21, 1918 – May 10, 2014) was an American politician. A member of the United States Democratic Party, Democratic Party, he served as the List of governors of Wisconsin, 38th Governor of Wisconsin from 1971 to 1977. He was also independent presidential candidate John B. Anderson's running mate in the 1980 United States presidential election, 1980 presidential election. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Lucey served in state and local government offices after graduating from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Wisconsin. He served in the Quartermaster Corps (United States Army), Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army during World War II. He held the position of Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin from 1965 to 1967 and unsuccessfully challenged Governor Warren P. Knowles in the 1966 gubernatorial election. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Domestic warrens are artificial, enclosed establishment of animal husbandry dedicated to the raising of rabbits for meat and fur. Oconto County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,965. Its county seat is Oconto. The county was established in 1851. Oconto County is part of the Green Bay, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Green Bay- Shawano, WI Combined Statistical Area. History First visited by French explorers in the 17th century, Oconto County is among the oldest settlements in Wisconsin. The American Party of the United States is a conservative political party in the United States. The party adheres to its Permanent Principles, which were established in 1969. The party began as part of the American Independent Party, supporters of George Wallace's 1968 campaign for the presidency, and was the formal name of the party on the ballot in Tennessee. In 1969, the AIP became the American Party at a convention attended by representatives from 37 states. Following the 1972 election, the American Party formally split from the American Independent Party.
