The 1970 Ohio State Buckeyes football team represented Ohio State University in the 1970 Big Ten Conference football season, Big Ten Conference during the 1970 NCAA University Division football season. The Buckeyes won all nine games in the regular season and were ranked second in 1970 NCAA University Division football rankings, both major polls. Ohio State won the Big Ten title and a berth in the 1971 Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, Pasadena on New Year's Day against the 1970 Stanford Indians football team, Stanford Indians, ranked No. 12 and champions of the Pac-12 Conference, Pac-8. The Buckeyes were upset 17–27 and finished with a 9–1 record. This was the last year Ohio State played a nine-game regular-season schedule (the Big Ten first allowed a 10th regular season game in 1965). Woody Hayes
Wayne Woodrow Hayes (February 14, 1913 – March 12, 1987) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at Denison University (1946–1948), Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (1949–1950), and Ohio State University (1951–1978), compiling a career college football record of 238 wins, 72 losses, and 10 ties. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1983. During his 28 seasons as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes football program, Hayes's teams were selected five times as national champions, from various pollsters, including three (1954, 1957, 1968) from major wire-service: AP Poll and Coaches' Poll.
