1970 Intercontinental Cup
The 1970 Intercontinental Cup was a football tie held over two legs in August and September 1970 between the winners of the 1969–70 European Cup, Feyenoord, and winners of the 1970 Copa Libertadores, Estudiantes de La Plata. The first leg was held on 26 August 1970 at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires, and ended in a 2–2 draw, with goals from Juan Echecopar and Juan Ramón Verón for Estudiantes and Willem van Hanegem and Ove Kindvall for Feyenoord. Estudiantes De La Plata
Club Estudiantes de La Plata ( lit. "Students from La Plata"), simply referred to as Estudiantes de La Plata , is an Argentine professional sports club based in La Plata. The club's football team currently competes in the Primera División, where it has spent most of its history. The club is a successful team in Argentina. In 1967, Estudiantes was the first team outside the traditional " big five" to win a professional league title. It has won four additional league titles and has had greater international success, having won six international titles. Estudiantes' international title championships are four Copa Libertadores (including three straight from 1968 to 1970), an Intercontinental Cup, and an Interamerican Cup. The club was founded in 1905 when a group of players and fans decided to break away from Gimnasia de La Plata, which favored indoor sport rather than football. Ove Kindvall
Bengt Ove Kindvall (born 16 May 1943) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a striker. He started his career at IFK Norrköping, where he played until he joined Feyenoord in 1966 and became professional. The same year, he won the Guldbollen, as the best Swedish footballer of the year. He is regarded as one of Sweden's greatest ever players. A full international between 1965 and 1974, he won 43 caps and scored 16 goals for the Sweden national team. He represented his country at the 1970 and 1974 FIFA World Cups. Club career With Feyenoord he won two national championships as well as the 1970 European Cup. In the final against Celtic he scored the winning goal in extra time. In his five seasons with the club, Kindvall scored 129 league goals in 144 games. Jorge Solari
Jorge Raúl Solari, (born 11 November 1941) is a former Argentine football player and manager. Playing career Solari, nicknamed ''"El Indio"'' ("The Indian"), played as a midfielder for several clubs in Argentina, he started his career with Newell's Old Boys in 1960. In 1962 he signed for Vélez Sársfield and in 1964 he joined River Plate. Solari represented Argentina in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. Solari left River in 1969 and had a short spell with Estudiantes de La Plata before retirement. He also played in the Primera División de México for Club de Fútbol Torreón. Eduardo Flores
Eduardo Raúl Flores (23 April 1944 – 20 January 2022) was an Argentine footballer who played as a striker for Estudiantes de La Plata in Argentina and AS Nancy in France. Career Flores started his playing career in 1962 with Estudiantes de La Plata, he went on to make 165 league appearances for the club scoring 65 goals. He was part of Osvaldo Zubeldía's team that won the 1967 Metropolitano championship, followed by three successive Copa Libertadores titles from 1968 to 1970. Flores missed the 1968 Copa Intercontinental championship win against Manchester United (of the Premier League), but played on the losing side against AC Milan in the 1969 edition and Feyenoord in 1970. Marcos Conigliaro
Marcos Norberto Conigliaro (born December 9, 1942) is an Argentine football coach and former professional player. Biography Conigliaro was born in Quilmes. As a player, he was a forward renowned for his technical ability. He played for many clubs in Argentina and abroad. His debut in Argentina was with Quilmes at the age of 15. He then played for Independiente, Chacarita Juniors, Estudiantes, Jalisco, K.S.V. Oudenaarde, Lugano, and Everton. In 1965, he arrived to Estudiantes de La Plata, who were a dominant force in Argentine and South American football during the late 1960s. During his time in Estudiantes, Conigliaro won three Copa Libertadores and the 1968 Intercontinental Cup. Carlos Pachamé
Carlos Oscar Pachamé (born 25 February 1944) is an Argentina, Argentine former Association football, football player and coach, who played as a midfielder. Playing career As a player, Pachamé was a defensive midfielder for the Estudiantes de La Plata team that won three successive editions of the Copa Libertadores from 1968 to 1970, and the 1968 Copa Intercontinental. In those teams, he formed part of a fearsome midfield, along with Carlos Bilardo and Eduardo Flores. He also played for the Argentina national football team, Argentina national team and Boca Juniors. Carlos Bilardo
Carlos Salvador Bilardo Digiano (born 16 March 1938) is an Argentine former physician, football player, and manager. Bilardo achieved worldwide renown as a player with Estudiantes de La Plata in the 1960s, and as the manager of the Argentina side that won the 1986 FIFA World Cup and came close to retaining the title in 1990, where they reached the final. As manager of Argentina, he was renowned for successfully employing the 3–5–2 formation at the highest level; this formation has been in use for decades, but has never achieved mainstream status. Oscar Malbernat
Oscar Miguel ''Cacho'' Malbernat Candela (2 February 1944 – 9 August 2019) was an Argentine footballer, who was the captain of Estudiantes de La Plata between 1967 and 1972, when the team won a local championship in 1967, three consecutive Copa Libertadores titles (1968 to 1970) and one Intercontinental Cup (1968), where he marked Manchester United's George Best. During one of the 1970 Intercontinental Cup games, he ripped off Joop van Daele's glasses and trampled on them claiming that he was "not allowed to play with glasses". Before his retirement, he played for Boca Juniors in 1972 and Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1973. After his career Malbernat would become a manager at various clubs all over South America including his former club Estudiantes on two occasions and other clubs in Paraguay, Ecuador, Chile and Peru. Néstor Togneri
Néstor Rubén Togneri (27 November 1942 – 8 December 1999) was an Argentine footballer. He played mostly for Estudiantes de La Plata (1968–1975) as a central defender or defensive midfielder, and was part of the Argentina national football team that took part at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Togneri also played for Club Atlético Platense between 1957 (when he made his debut in the junior team) and 1967 and for Club Atlético Quilmes in 1976, where he retired from football. During his time with Estudiantes the club enjoyed the most successful period in their history. Rubén Pagnanini
Rubén Oscar Pagnanini (born 31 January 1949 in San Nicolás de los Arroyos, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine former football player who played for the Argentina national team. He played for Estudiantes de La Plata, Club Atlético Independiente, Argentinos Juniors and Minnesota Kicks. Playing for Estudiantes, he won the 1969 Copa Libertadores and 1970 Copa Libertadores. His greatest achievements at the local club level were winning the Nacional championships of 1977 and 1978 with Independiente. Néstor Errea
Néstor Errea (27 April 1939 – 3 June 2005) was an Argentine professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. His nickname was ''"El Flaco"'' ''( eng, "The Skinny")'' because of his tall, slender body physique. Club career Errea started football at an amateur level at Sacachispas in the Villa Soldati region of Buenos Aires. His professional career began in 1959 when he joined Atlético Atlanta. He played there until 1962 and then joined Boca Juniors, where he won 3 Championships. In 1966 he signed for Colón playing for a year before he travel to Uruguay to play for Peñarol, where during his short spell he managed to win an Uruguayan Primera División in 1967.
