The schedule covers primetime hours from September 1969 through August 1970. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series cancelled after the 1968–69 season. New fall series are highlighted in bold. In the United States, for most of the history of broadcasting, there were only three or four major commercial national terrestrial networks. From 1946 to 1956, these were ABC, CBS, NBC and DuMont (though the Paramount Television Network had some limited success during these years). The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour
''The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour'' was an American music and comedy television variety show hosted by singer Glen Campbell from January 29, 1969, to June 13, 1972, on CBS. He was offered the show after he hosted a 1968 summer replacement for ''The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour''. Campbell used "Gentle on My Mind" as the theme song of the show. The show was one of the few shows with rural audience appeal to survive CBS's rural purge of 1971, a survival made more unusual because it had fallen out of the top 30 shows that season. ''Love, American Style'' is an anthology comedy television series that aired on ABC from 1969 to 1974. The series was produced by Paramount Television. ''The Survivors'' is a high-profile prime time soap opera aired by the ABC television network as part of its Fall 1969 lineup. History Hollywood film star Lana Turner made her only television appearance as a regular series character on ''The Survivors''. The New People
''The New People'' is a 1969 American television series on ABC that focused on a group of young college students who were returning from a trip in Southeast Asia when their plane crashed on an island in the south Pacific Ocean. This program is an extremely rare example of a regularly scheduled network television series with 45-minute-long episodes; it aired immediately after '' The Music Scene'', another 45-minute program. Plot The crash killed several of the college students, and all but one of the adults, who was badly injured and later died. The surviving students were the only human life remaining on the island. The island was unusual in that it had been built up as a site for a potential above-ground nuclear test which never took place, leaving all of the buildings and (improbably) supplies untouched and ready for use by the survivors. ''The Music Scene'' is a television series aired by the ABC Television Network in its Fall 1969 lineup, featuring primarily rock and pop music. The 45-minute program aired Mondays at 7:30 pm. It was paired with a second 45-minute program, ''The New People,'' to form a 90-minute block intended to compete with the more popular offering on NBC, ''Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In''. Concept ''The Music Scene'' was conceived as a musical-variety show with rotating hosts and contemporary rock and pop artists. It led a completely revamped Monday night schedule, reflecting ABC's effort to balance programming that targeted younger viewers with legacy shows catering to an older audience, such as ''The Lawrence Welk Show''. The Protectors
''The Protectors'' is a British television series, an action thriller created by Gerry Anderson. It was Anderson's second TV series to exclusively use live actors as opposed to marionettes (following ''UFO''), and his second to be firmly set in contemporary times (following '' The Secret Service''). It was also the only Gerry Anderson-produced television series that was not of the fantasy or science fiction genres. It was produced by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment production company.
