The 1970 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 19th season of the top tier men's basketball league on Iceland, then known as 1. deild karla. The season started on January 4, 1970 and ended on March 21, 1970. ÍR won their tenth title by beating Ármann 2-0 in the playoffs finals for championship. KR finished in third place after beating KFR, two games to none, in a best-of-three series. Þórir Magnússon led all players in scoring during the regular season, scoring 292 points in 10 games, or 29.2 points per game. The KR men's basketball team, commonly known as KR or KR Basket, is a professional basketball club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (English: Reykjavík Football Club) multi-sport club. It has won the Icelandic championship eighteen times, the most national championships in the men's top-tier league history. In 2017 the club played in FIBA Europe Cup for the first time since 2008. Þorsteinn Hallgrímsson
Þorsteinn Hallgrímsson (born 25 July 1942) is an Icelanders, Icelandic former basketball player. Nicknamed Doddi, he won the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Icelandic championship nine times and the Danish Basketball League, Danish championship four times during his career. Playing career Þorsteinn played his first game in 1959 with ÍR men's basketball, ÍR. He was a key player in the ÍR team that won the Icelandic championship for five straight seasons, from 1960 to 1964. In 1965, Þorsteinn joined SISU BK in the Danish Basketball League and helped the club to the national championship in 1966 and 1967. He left SISU midway through the 1967–68 season, with the club in first place, and rejoined ÍR. Þorsteinn was named the Úrvalsdeild karla Player of the Year, Úrvalsdeild Player of the Year in 1971. Einar Bollason
Einar Gunnar Bollason (born 6 November 1943) is an Icelandic former basketball player, coach and TV analyst. As a player, he won the Icelandic championship six times with KR men's basketball, KR. In 2001, he was named to the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century and the coach of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association. In 2020, he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon from the president of Iceland. Early life Einar was born in Vesturbær in Reykjavík. The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Icelandic men's top division. On 22 December 1957 the club changed its name to ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Reykjavíkur'' (English: Reykjavík Basketball Club) and played under that name until 1970.
