The 1969 Taça de Portugal Final was the final match of the 1968–69 Taça de Portugal, the 29th season of the Taça de Portugal, the premier Portuguese football cup competition organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). The match was played on 22 June 1969 at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, and opposed two Primeira Liga sides: Académica and Benfica. 1968–69 Taça De Portugal
The 1968–69 Taça de Portugal was the 29th edition of the Portuguese football knockout tournament, organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). The 1968–69 Taça de Portugal began in September 1968. The final was played on 22 June 1969 at the Estádio Nacional. Porto were the previous holders, having defeated Vitória de Setúbal 2–1 in the previous season's final. Defending champions Porto were unable to regain the Taça de Portugal as they were defeated in the fourth round by eventual winners Benfica, who went on to defeat Académica de Coimbra in the final and claim their thirteenth Taça de Portugal. Taça De Portugal
The Taça de Portugal (; "Cup of Portugal") is an annual association football competition and the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football. For sponsorship reasons, it has been known as Taça de Portugal Placard since the 2015–16 season. Organised by the Portuguese Football Federation since it was first held in 1938, the competition is open to professional and amateur clubs from the top-four league divisions. Matches are played from August–September to May–June, and the final is traditionally held at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, near Lisbon. The winners qualify for the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (or the runners-up, in case the winners are also the league champions) and the UEFA Europa League (unless they already qualify for the UEFA Champions League through league placing). Portugal was represented for the second time by Simone de Oliveira, with the song "Desfolhada portuguesa", at the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 29 March in Madrid. "Desfolhada portuguesa" was chosen as the Portuguese entry at the Grande Prémio TV da Canção Portuguesa on 24 February. Actually, Simone de Oliveira was not the authors' first choice to defend the "Desfolhada portuguesa" at this festival, having even been invited to a week of the event.
