The Liga 2 (Ligue 2) of Peru is the second-highest division in the Peruvian football league system. It is a professional and promotional division organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. After years of changing numbers of clubs, as of 2021 the league includes 12 clubs. History The format of the Second Division has changed over the years. For decades after it was first formed in 1936, only clubs from the Lima Region, Department of Lima participated in the annual tournament. 1969 Torneo Descentralizado
The 1969 Torneo Descentralizado was the 53rd season of the highest division of Peruvian football. Despite being relegated at the end of the 1968 season, Carlos A. Mannucci returned to the first division through the 1969 Copa Perú. The format of the season changed from the previous season. The season was divided into two phases. In the first phase, the fourteen teams played each other once. In the second phase, the teams were divided into two groups. Teams in first to sixth place were grouped into a championship group while teams in seventh to fourteenth place were grouped into a relegation group. All teams carried their records from the first phase into the second phase. Universitario was crowned champion. Mariscal Sucre FC
Mariscal Sucre is a Peruvian football club, located in the city of La Victoria, Lima. The club was founded with the name of Sucre FC and was promoted to Peruvian Primera División in 1933, later was renamed Mariscal Sucre de Deportes in 1951. The club won the national tournament in 1944 and 1953. In the 1968 Torneo Descentralizado, Mariscal Sucre was relegated when Centro Iqueño defeated them in a relegation playoff, and it was their last appearance in the Peruvian Primera Division. After the disappearance of the Peruvian Segunda División in 1973, the club played in the Liga Mayor de Fútbol de Lima in 1974 but did not get promotion to the Peruvian Primera División. 1970 Torneo Descentralizado
The 1970 Torneo Descentralizado was the 54th season of the highest division of Peruvian football. Torino and SIMA made their debut in the first division this season. The national champion was Sporting Cristal while SIMA and Grau were relegated. Competition modus The season was divided into two phases. In the first phase the 14 teams played each other twice playing at least one home match and one away match. The teams that finished in first to seventh place advanced to the championship group which contested the national title. The teams that finished in eighth to fourteenth place advanced to the relegation group where they determined the two teams that would be relegated from the division.
