1969 BC Lions Season
The 1969 CFL season, 1969 BC Lions finished in third place in the Western Conference with a 5–11 record and made the playoffs due to a late season 4 game winning streak. After taking the club to a 1–9 record, head coach Jim Champion (gridiron football), Jim Champion was relieved of his duties, and on September 24, assistant coach Jackie Parker was promoted to head coach. Parker led the club to a 4–2 finish and an unlikely playoff berth. They appeared in the Western Semi-Final, losing to the Calgary Stampeders 35–21. The offense continued to struggle and managed to score only 22 touchdowns. Jake Scott, Super Bowl MVP, MVP of Super Bowl VII, played as a wide receiver. Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. The Blue Bombers were founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, later changed to the Winnipeg Football Club, which is the organization's legal name. The Blue Bombers are one of three community owned teams, without shareholders, in the CFL. Jim Young
James Norman Young (born June 6, 1943) is a former professional American football and Canadian football player. Young played running back and wide receiver for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings for two seasons (1965–66), and the CFL's BC Lions for thirteen seasons (1967–79). Young is a member of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame, and the Queen's University Football Hall of Fame. Young's #30 jersey is one of ten numbers retired by the BC Lions. In 2003, Young was voted a member of the BC Lions All-Time Dream Team as part of the club’s 50th anniversary celebration. In 2006, Young was voted to the Honour Roll of the CFL's top 50 players of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network TSN. Paul Brothers (Canadian Football)
Paul Brothers (born April 18, 1945) is a former American football quarterback in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions and Ottawa Rough Riders. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixteenth round of the 1967 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oregon State University. Early years Brothers was a two-time All-State quarterback at Roseburg High School, where he led the team to a football state championship in 1961. Following graduation in 1963, he stayed in state to play at Oregon State University in Corvallis. College career Brothers accepted a football scholarship from Oregon State University to play under head coach Tommy Prothro. As a sophomore, he was named the starter at quarterback after a season opener loss against Northwestern University.
