Maxie Lambright
Maxie Thomas Lambright (June 23, 1924 – January 28, 1980) was the head coach of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs football team from 1967 to 1978 and the Louisiana Tech University athletic director from 1970 to 1978. He led Louisiana Tech to three Division II National Championships and seven conference championships. Lambright coached the legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw. Lambright played college football at Southern Miss from 1946 to 1948 and graduated in 1949 from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A native of McComb, Mississippi, Lambright later coached from 1955 to 1958 at Bolton High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. McNaspy Stadium
McNaspy Stadium was a 4,500-seat stadium built on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (then called Southwestern Louisiana Institute) built in 1940, and remained the home for the school's football team until 1971. The stadium was located to the southwest of Earl K. Long Gymnasium, which had been built the previous year, and consisted of a large home grandstand on the north side and bleachers on the south, with a cinder track surrounded by hedges in the end zones. The grandstand had arches along its top (to reflect the arches in the "arcade" along the Quad, built at roughly the same time), and also contained men's dorm space, weight rooms, locker rooms, etc. The field was oriented in a northeast–southwest direction, mirroring the street grid of the rest of the campus. Brown Stadium (Monroe)
Groseclose Track at Brown Stadium is a stadium in Monroe, Louisiana, United States, on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The track surrounding the field is named Groseclose Track. It is the home facility for the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks' soccer and track and field teams. The capacity of the stadium is 3,000. Brown Stadium was the home field of the Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks football team from 1951 to 1977. The facility was renovated in 2018 as part of a $5 million project that included new offices for soccer and track coaches, locker rooms and storage areas. Provost Umphrey Stadium (previously Cardinal Stadium) is a 16,000-seat multi-purpose stadium located on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. The stadium, home to the Lamar Cardinals football team, is located next to the Montagne Center. While primarily used for football, Provost Umphrey Stadium is also a concert venue with seating up to 20,000 for concerts. Rivalry in Dixie is the name given to the Louisiana Tech–Southern Miss football rivalry. It is a college football rivalry game between the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Southern Miss Golden Eagles. History Louisiana Tech won the first game of the series 27–0 on November 28, 1935. La Tech and USM were conference foes in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association from 1935 to 1941. In addition, La Tech and USM were both founding members of the Gulf States Conference, which began play in 1948. The two football programs competed against each other every season from 1946 to 1972. The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles played 11 times from 1975 to 1992. The name of the rivalry was coined by Mississippi Southern alumnus and Louisiana Tech head football coach Maxie Lambright. MM Roberts Stadium, also known as "The Rock", is an American football stadium located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It is the home of The University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles football team. History The stadium was originally opened on October 29, 1932 as "Faulkner Field", with a wooden grandstand which held 4,000 spectators at the time. It was named for local businessman L.E. Faulkner, who financed the materials and equipment for the stadium, which was built for free by local unemployed workers during the Great Depression. In 1938, permanent concrete stands which also housed dormitory space for student-athletes were built on the east side of the field, with the help of Southern Miss football players hauling the concrete.
