1968 BC Lions Season
The 1968 CFL season, 1968 BC Lions finished in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 4–11–1 record and continued to have an inept offense. The Lions scored just 16 touchdowns all season. Finding the long-term replacement for Joe Kapp was difficult, and at one point, assistant coach Jackie Parker, a CFL legend who had retired in 1965, donned the pads for eight games at quarterback. Eventually, former Dallas Cowboys draft pick Paul Brothers (Canadian football), Paul Brothers won the starting quarterback job and would be the Lions pivot for the next three seasons. The main brightspot was the Lions transitioning to a kicking specialist as their placekicker, Ted Gerela, accounted for 115 of the team's 217 points and hit 30 fieldgoals (at the time it was not only a CFL record, but a professional record). Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. There were also two now-defunct teams from the Canadian Football League in the United States, mid 1990s United States expansion of the CFL who played in the West Division. Sonny Homer
Lawrence "Sonny" Homer (July 8, 1936 – February 22, 2006) was a professional Canadian football wide receiver who played eleven seasons in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions. He was part of the Lions' 1964 Grey Cup The 52nd Grey Cup was hosted at CNE Stadium in Toronto, Ontario on November 28, 1964. The BC Lions defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 34–24, the first Grey Cup victory for BC. Jim Young
James Norman Young (born June 6, 1943) is a former professional American football and Canadian football player. Young played running back and wide receiver for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings for two seasons (1965–66), and the CFL's BC Lions for thirteen seasons (1967–79). Young is a member of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame, and the Queen's University Football Hall of Fame. Young's #30 jersey is one of ten numbers retired by the BC Lions. In 2003, Young was voted a member of the BC Lions All-Time Dream Team as part of the club’s 50th anniversary celebration. In 2006, Young was voted to the Honour Roll of the CFL's top 50 players of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network TSN. Jim Evenson
Jim Evenson (born January 9, 1947) was a running back who played seven seasons in the Canadian Football League for the British Columbia Lions and the Ottawa Rough Riders. Evenson won the Eddie James Memorial Trophy in 1971. He was a part of the Rough Riders 1973 Grey Cup winning team. Evenson played college football at University of Oregon The University of Oregon (UO, U of O or Oregon) is a public research university in Eugene, Oregon. Founded in 1876, the institution is well known for its strong ties to the sports apparel and marketing firm Nike, Inc, and its co-founder, billion .... He finished his career with a brief stint with the Portland Thunder of the up-start WFL, where he rushed for 439 yards on 99 carries scoring one touchdown. Pete Ohler
Peter Ohler (December 29, 1940 – June 7, 2021) was a Canadian football quarterback, coach, and art dealer working primarily with Canadian historic art. He played five seasons with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Ohler attended Vancouver College for high school, playing basketball and football. Upon graduating, he first enrolled at Wenatchee Community College before transferring to the University of Washington. Ohler was also a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was a member of the BC Lions team that won the 52nd Grey Cup.
