1968 APG Tour Qualifying School Graduates
This is a list of the 1968 APG Tour Qualifying School graduates. This was the only qualifying school for the American Professional Golfers (APG), a briefly lived breakaway tour that was created by tour golfers who were upset with financial arrangements with the PGA of America. The APG is the direct antecedent for an independent PGA Tour which began shortly thereafter. The tournament was played over 144 holes at the Doral Country Club in Doral, Florida in mid October. There were 39 players in the field and 21 earned their tour card. Dutch golfer Martin Roesink was the medallist. PGA Of America
The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America) is an American organization of golf professionals that was founded in 1916. Consisting of nearly 29,000 men and women members, the PGA of America's undertaking is to establish and elevate the standards of the profession and to grow interest and participation in the game of golf. In 1968, the PGA Tour was spun off from the PGA of America as a separate organization to administer professional golf tours. The PGA Tour (stylized in all capital letters as PGA TOUR by its officials) is the organizer of professional golf tours in the United States and North America. Doral is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. One of 34 municipalities in the county, it is located west of Miami International Airport and west of Downtown Miami. Martin Roesink
Martin Roesink (born 24 July 1939) is a Dutch professional golfer. In the mid-1960s he had much success in Australasian region, posting several high finishes culminating with a win at the 1967 New Zealand Wills Masters. The following year he tried out for the PGA Tour and was successful, performing as medallist at the fall Q-School. He played on the PGA Tour for five seasons, recording a number of top tens, including a runner-up finish in 1970. Since then, he has worked primarily as a club professional and golf manager in the American state of Ohio. Early life Roesink was born in Diepenveen, Netherlands. Bob Shaw (golfer)
Robert J. Shaw (born 24 December 1944) is an Australian professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s. Shaw was born in Sydney. He turned professional in 1965. Shaw played in Europe in 1968, winning the Spanish Open. Later in the year he successfully qualified for the PGA Tour at 1968 APG Tour Qualifying School. His best finishes in PGA Tour events were a T-2 at both the 1969 Tallahassee Open and the 1971 Greater Milwaukee Open plus a win at the 1972 Tallahassee Open with a 15-under-par 273 by two strokes over Leonard Thompson. His best finish in a major was T20 at the 1972 PGA Championship. Bob Panasik
Robert R. Panasik (born October 20, 1941) is a Canadian professional golfer. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he was known as Bob Panasiuk until 1970 when he changed his name to Panasik so it would be "easier to pronounce". In 1957, at the age of 15, Panasik made the halfway cut in the Canadian Open to become the youngest player ever to play all four rounds in a PGA Tour event, a record which stood until April 2013 when his record was broken by Guan Tianlang. He went on to win the Canadian PGA Championship twice as well as many provincial tournaments in Canada. He also qualified for the U.S. Open on several occasions and represented Canada in three World Cups. Panasik continued his success as a senior, playing one full season on the Senior PGA Tour (later known as the Champions Tour) in 1994. Cesar Sanudo
Cesar Sanudo (October 26, 1943 – August 28, 2011) was a Mexican professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour. Golf career Sanudo was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico with his four siblings. Like many other Hispanic professional golfers of the era, Sanudo got his start in golf by caddying. His first job was at Tijuana Country Club in 1954. During his teens he moved from Tijuana to San Diego and graduated from El Cajon High School in El Cajon, California. While in high school he improved on his golf game through San Diego's elite juniors program. Butch Harmon
Claude "Butch" Harmon Jr. (born August 28, 1943) is an American golf instructor and former professional player. He is the son of 1948 Masters Tournament champion Claude Harmon Sr. and has been in the golf industry since 1965. Early life Butch Harmon was raised in New Rochelle, New York by Eugene Claude Harmon (1916–89) and Alice Cullen McKee Harmon (1918–70). His father was the head pro at the nearby Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck. The family also lived part of the year in Florida, when Butch's father served as the winter professional at the Seminole Golf Club.
