1967–68 Colchester United F.C. Season
The 1967–68 season was Colchester United's 26th season in their history and their second successive season in the third tier of English football, the Third Division. Alongside competing in the Third Division, the club also participated in the FA Cup and the League Cup. Colchester were relegated to the Fourth Division after a two–year stay in the Third Division. They succumbed following 15 defeats in 22 games, recording just one win during this time. Manager Neil Franklin was sacked two days after the season ending 5–1 home defeat by Peterborough United. They fared better in the FA Cup, earning a third round replay against First Division West Bromwich Albion where they were defeated 4–0, but exited the League Cup in the first round, beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion by the same scoreline. The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season. Whilst the division disappeared in name in 1992, the 4th tier of English football continued as the Football League Third Division, and later became known as Football League Two. Duncan Forbes (footballer)
Duncan Scott Forbes (19 June 1941 – 23 October 2019) was a Scottish professional footballer. He spent 33 years at Norwich City, 13 as a player, seven on the commercial staff and 13 as chief scout. ''The Times'' noted his aggressive defending by writing "Forbes got his customary booking; the referee ought to take his name in the changing room rather than on the pitch thus saving time." Career Forbes joined Colchester United in September 1961 from Scottish non-league side Musselburgh Athletic, making his league debut later that season. He quickly established himself as a regular in the Layer Road side, playing in two promotion-winning teams and two relegation teams over the next 7 years. Alan Michael Buck (born 25 August 1946) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Colchester United. Ernest Robert Adams (born 17 January 1948) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Colchester United, Crewe Alexandra and Darlington.
