1967 Masters Tournament
The 1967 Masters Tournament was the 31st Masters Tournament, held April 6–9 at Augusta National Golf Club. Gay Brewer won his only major title by one stroke over runner-up Bobby Nichols. Rebounding from a three-putt on the 72nd hole and a playoff loss the previous year, Brewer birdied the 13th, 14th, and 15th holes on Sunday. Arnold Palmer finished in fourth and Gary Player finished tied for 6th, while Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, both age 54, finished tied for 10th. In the third round, Hogan shot a 66 which was the lowest single round score in the tournament, while he struggled with an aching shoulder and legs. Hogan's round included a course record-tying 30 on the back nine, with birdies at 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, and 18, with pars at the other three holes. It was later equaled by Player in 1978 and Jack Nicklaus in 1986; both shot 30 on the back nine on Sunday to win by a stroke. The 1986 Masters Tournament was the 50th Masters Tournament, held April 10–13 at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Jack Nicklaus won his record 18th professional major with a historic one-stroke victory. He shot a final round 65 (−7), with a back nine of 30 (−6), for a total score of 279 (−9). At age 46, he became the oldest winner of the Masters and the second-oldest winner of any major championship, behind Julius Boros, who was 48 when he captured the PGA Championship in 1968 (until they were both passed by Phil Mickelson when he won the 2021 PGA Championship). The win also gave Nicklaus a record six Masters victories, the first in 1963, less than ten months after his first major win at the 1962 U.S. Open. The 1959 Masters Tournament was the 23rd Masters Tournament, held April 2–5 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Art Wall Jr. shot a final round of 66 (−6), with birdies on five of the last six holes, for his only major title, one stroke ahead of runner-up Cary Middlecoff, the 1955 champion. Wall started the final round six strokes behind the leaders, in a tie for thirteenth place. Defending champion Arnold Palmer was a third round co-leader, but a triple-bogey at the par-3 12th led to a 74 and a third-place finish, two strokes back. The purse in 1959 was a record $76,100 with a winner's share of $15,000 to Wall. The estimated gallery for the final round on Sunday was 30,000 spectators. The 1993 Masters Tournament was the 57th Masters Tournament, held April 8–11 at Augusta National Golf Club. Bernhard Langer won his second Masters championship, four strokes ahead of runner-up Chip Beck. Heavy rains on Friday afternoon caused a delay and the second round was not completed until Saturday morning. Jeff Maggert was the leader in the clubhouse at 137 (−7) while Langer was at six-under after sixteen holes when darkness suspended play. Langer, the 1985 champion, finished that round with pars and then forged a four-shot lead with a 69 in the third round to equal the best round of the day. Tied for second were Beck and Dan Forsman. 1960 Masters Tournament
The 1960 Masters Tournament was the 24th Masters Tournament, held April 7–10 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Arnold Palmer birdied the final two holes to win by one stroke over runner-up Ken Venturi. It was the second of Palmer's four Masters victories and the second of his seven major titles. Palmer, age 30, also won the U.S. Open in 1960 and was the runner-up at the British Open. Jack Nicklaus, age 20 and the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, played in his second Masters. The 1957 Masters Tournament was the 21st Masters Tournament, held April 4–7 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. This was the first Masters played with a 36-hole cut; 101 players started and forty made the cut at 150 (+6). Doug Ford won his only Masters, three strokes ahead of runner-up Sam Snead, a three-time champion. Snead was the third round leader, but could only shoot even-par in a round that included six birdies and six bogeys. Ford was three strokes back after 54 holes, but was bogey-free on Sunday. On the final hole, Ford holed out from the bunker for birdie for his 66 (–6). This was Ford's second and final major title; he also won the 1955 PGA Championship. Jimmy Demaret, the 1940 champion, was the co-leader after both the first and second rounds, and had a three-shot lead after 54 holes. The 1940 Masters Tournament was the seventh Masters Tournament, held April 4–7 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Jimmy Demaret won the first of his three Masters titles, four strokes ahead of runner-up Lloyd Mangrum, the largest margin of victory until 1948. The purse was $5,000 and the winner's share was $1,500. Mangrum shot an opening round 64 (−8), a new course record by two strokes, and it stood for 46 years, until Nick Price's 63 in 1986, later equaled by Greg Norman in 1996. Jimmy Demaret
James Newton Demaret (May 24, 1910 – December 28, 1983) was an American professional golfer. He won 31 PGA Tour events in a long career between 1935 and 1957, and was the first three-time winner of the Masters, with titles in 1940, 1947, and 1950. Life and career Born in Houston, Texas, Demaret reached his peak in the late 1940s with wins in the Masters in 1947, runner-up to Ben Hogan in the 1948 U.S. Open, and leading money winner and Vardon Trophy winner in 1947. He reached the semifinals of the PGA Championship four times, but never made the finals. He was one stroke short of making the playoff for the 1957 U.S. Open, at age 47. He played on three Ryder Cup teams: 1947, 1949, and 1951. His career declined in the 1950s, although he managed several key wins including the 1952 Bing Crosby Pro-Am. The 1998 Masters Tournament was the 62nd Masters Tournament, held from April 9–12 at Augusta National Golf Club. Mark O'Meara won his first major championship with a birdie putt on the final hole to win by one stroke over runners-up David Duval and Fred Couples. He birdied three of the final four holes in a final round 67 (−5). In one of the most remarkable performances of his career, Jack Nicklaus tied for sixth place at the age of 58. His final round 68 (−4) yielded a 283 (−5), the lowest 72-hole score by a player over age 50 at the Masters.
