1967 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The 4th Assam Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases in 1967 to elect members from 126 constituencies in Assam, India. Constituencies Assam Legislative Assembly, 126 consisted of 93 Genrael constituencies, 24 Scheduled Tribes and 9 Scheduled Castes constituencies. A total of 492 nominations were filed out of which 486 were men's and 6 were women withdrew their nominations. 4 women were elected to Assam Legislative Assembly. Political Parties 9 National parties along with 10 registered unrecognized parties took part in the assembly election. Indian National Congress contested 92 seats and won 76 of them. Assam Legislative Assembly
The Assam Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Assam. It is housed in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, geographically situated in present Western Assam region. The Legislative Assembly comprises 126 Members of Legislative Assembly, directly elected from single-seat constituencies. Its term is five years, unless sooner dissolved. History According to provisions of the Government of India Act 1935, a bicameral legislature of Assam province came into existence in 1937. Abdul Matlib Mazumdar
Abdul Matlib Mazumder ( bn, আব্দুল মতলিব মজুমদার; 1890–1980) was an Indian freedom fighter and political leader based in undivided Assam State. In 1946, when India was still under British rule, he became an MLA and also Cabinet Minister of Assam. He was one of the prominent Muslim leaders of eastern India to support Hindu-Muslim unity, opposing the partition of India on communal lines. Mazumder along with Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (who later became the 5th President of India) became the most prominent Muslim opponents of the demand for a separate Muslim state of Pakistan, especially in the eastern part of the country. Moulana Abdul Jalil Choudhury
ʿAbd al-Jalīl ibn Aṣghar Choudhury al-Badarfūrī ( ar, عبد الجليل بن أصغر تشودهري البدرفوري; 19 December 1989), or simply Abdul Jalil Choudhury Badarpuri ( bn, আব্দুল জলিল চৌধুরী বদরপুরী), was a Bengali Deobandi Islamic scholar, teacher and politician. Born in what is now Bangladesh, Choudhury became one of the senior disciples of Hussain Ahmed Madani from Sylhet District. He relocated to Badarpur, Karimganj following the Partition of Bengal in 1947 and served as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly for several terms. Choudhury has many contributions in Northeast India, covering Islamic and social development, and had participated in the Bengali Language Movement of the Barak Valley. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them.
