The 1967 All-Big Ten Conference football team consists of American football players chosen by various organizations for All-Big Ten Conference teams for the 1967 Big Ten Conference football season. Five of the first-team players were chosen from the Purdue Boilermakers, including quarterback Mike Phipps and running backs Perry Williams and Leroy Keyes, the latter of whom was the only player unanimously chosen for the All-Big Ten team. 1967 Big Ten Conference Football Season
The 1967 Big Ten Conference football season was the 72nd season of college football played by the member schools of the Big Ten Conference and was a part of the 1967 NCAA University Division football season. The season resulted in a three-way tie for the conference championship, as Indiana, Purdue, and Minnesota each finished with a conference record of 6–1. Each team was 1–1 against the others; as Indiana defeated Purdue, Purdue defeated Minnesota, and Minnesota defeated Indiana. As of 2022, this was the last conference championship for both Indiana and Minnesota. Purdue has won one conference title since then, in 2000. The 1967 Indiana Hoosiers football team, under head coach John Pont, was ranked No. 4 in the final AP Poll. The Hoosiers lost to USC in the 1968 Rose Bowl. Charlie Sanders
Charles Alvin Sanders (August 25, 1946 July 2, 2015) was an American professional football player who was a tight end for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) from 1968 to 1977. Sanders was chosen for the NFL's 1970s All-Decade Team and voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Early years Sanders was born in 1946 in Richlands, North Carolina. He attended James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he played for the football, basketball, and baseball teams. University of Minnesota Sanders attended the University of Minnesota, where he played college football for the Golden Gophers. George Hoey
George William Hoey (born November 14, 1946) is a former American football defensive back, punt returner and kickoff returner. He played college football for the University of Michigan Wolverines (1966–1968) and professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the Arizona Cardinals (1971), New England Patriots (1972–1973), San Diego Chargers (1974), Denver Broncos (1975), and New York Jets (1975). In high school, Hoey was an All-State halfback. At the University of Michigan, College Football Hall of Fame halfback Ron Johnson was in Hoey's class, and Hoey was therefore used principally as a defensive back. Hoey is most remembered for his work as a punt returner at Michigan. Ted Provost
Ted R. Provost (born July 26, 1948, in Navarre, Ohio) is a former star high school, university and professional football player. As a high school athlete at Fairless High School he lettered three seasons as a quarterback and defensive back. He was also outstanding in basketball and track. He was inducted into the Stark County High School Football Hall of Fame in 2004. Provost attended the Ohio State University and was a Buckeye from 1967 to 1969. He was key member of the 1968 national championship team as a safety. He was nicknamed "Tree" by legendary coach Woody Hayes after he collected so many of the "leaf" awards that were put on players helmets. Terry Miller (linebacker)
Terry Miller (born April 11, 1946) is a former professional American football player who played linebacker for the Detroit Lions and St. Louis Cardinals. Early years Miller was a three-sport star at Arcola High School. He played forward for the Arcola basketball team that reached the "Sweet Sixteen" his senior year and was offered scholarships by several Big Ten schools. But Miller wanted to play football and was offered a scholarship by the University of Illinois where he played linebacker from 1964-1967. Noel Jenke
Noel Charles Jenke (December 17, 1946 – July 23, 2020) was an American professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played for three different teams during the 1971 through 1974 seasons. Before playing professional football, Jenke was a minor league baseball player in the Boston Red Sox organization. Amateur career Jenke attended Owatonna High School in Owatonna, Minnesota, where he lettered each of his three high school years in three sports—football, basketball, and baseball—while captaining each in his senior year. Tom Stincic
Thomas Dorn Stincic (born November 24, 1946) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. He played college football, principally as a linebacker, at the University of Michigan from 1966 to 1968. Ken Criter
Ken Criter (born February 17, 1947 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin) is an American college and professional football player who played for the American Football League's Denver Broncos. Criter graduated from New Holstein High School in New Holstein, Wisconsin. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he played college football. A linebacker at Wisconsin, Criter became a first-Team All-Big Ten selection in 1967 and 1968. Criter went on to the AFL where he played for the Denver Broncos in 1969. The Broncos joined the NFL in 1970 and Criter played for them until 1974. During his first two of seasons Criter wore the jersey number 78, but later switched to jersey number 53. Chuck Kyle (American Football)
Charles Douglas Kyle (born September 25, 1947) is a former American football linebacker in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He played college football at Purdue University. Early years Kyle grew up in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He attended Highlands High School, where he practiced football, shot put and also won a state diving championship. He accepted a football scholarship from Purdue University. He was a three-year starter at the middle guard position. He was an All-Big Ten player in 1966 (UPI-1), 1967 (AP-1, UPI-1), and 1968 (AP-1, UPI-1). He was also a consensus first-team selection as a middle guard on the 1968 College Football All-America Team.
