''1967'' is a compilation album released by the Mint 400 Records label. It is the label's sixth compilation, and features songs that were written or made popular in the year 1967. Content The fourteen-track album was released by Mint 400 Records for free on 30 March 2015, and showcases the Duke of Norfolk, Fairmont, Fawn and Rabbit, Jack Skuller, the Maravines, Moscow Centre, Murzik, the One & Nines, Netorare Fan Club, Tri-State and Zach Uncles. In a ''Pirate!'' press release, the staff writer notes "the majority of bands on Mint 400 Records have a strong 60's influence and 1967 seemed like the year that was most important." The album contains songs that were written or recorded during 1967, the second compilation from Mint 400 Records which features music from that era, the previous being the Beach Boys' ''Pet Sounds'' compilation. Love Me Two Times
"Love Me Two Times" is a song by the American rock band the Doors. First appearing on their second studio album '' Strange Days'', it was later edited to a 2:37 length and released as the second single (after "People Are Strange") from that album. The single reached number 25 on the charts in the United States. "Love Me Two Times" was considered to be somewhat risqué for radio airplay, being banned in New Haven for being "too controversial," much to the dismay of the band. Composition As with the other songs on ''Strange Days'', the album liner notes list the songwriters as the Doors as does the "Love Me Two Times" single; the performance rights organization ASCAP shows the writers as the individual Doors members. Murzik is an American dark folk band from Minnesota. About Murzik is a gypsy indie folk four-piece band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, that started in 2003. The band name comes from the common Russian name for cats. ''Duluth News Tribune'' describes Murzik as the "combin dzestiness of gypsy swing with the somber tones of some Eastern European folk music." They utilize saxophone, bells, dark fiddle, accordion, mandolin and glockenspiel, with bass, drums and acoustic guitar. The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1964. The original line-up consisted of singer/guitarist Lou Reed, multi-instrumentalist John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison, and drummer Angus MacLise. I'll Be Your Mirror
"I'll Be Your Mirror" is a song by the Velvet Underground and Nico. It appeared on their 1967 debut album ''The Velvet Underground & Nico''. It also surfaced as a single a year earlier with "All Tomorrow's Parties" in 1966. Lou Reed wrote the song for Nico, who provides lead vocals. According to biographer Victor Bockris, inspiration for the song came about after Nico approached Reed after a show in 1965 saying, "Oh Lou, I'll be your mirror." The song was a favorite of Reed's and ''The Velvet Underground & Nico'' engineer, Norman Dolph. Mark Deming of AllMusic described "I'll Be Your Mirror" as an "understated love song." The Applejacks (British Band)
The Applejacks were an English beat group of the 1960s. They were the first "Brumbeat" group (that is, from the West Midlands conurbation-Birmingham area) to reach the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, and were unusual for having a female bass guitarist, Megan Davies. History All of the Applejacks (except Jackson) were members of the same scout troop as children. Baggott, Cash and Freeman began playing together in a skiffle group named the Crestas in 1961, occasionally performing at a local youth club. It was never recorded by The Kinks, but Ray Davies's demo can be found in reissue bonus tracks of their second studio album '' Kinda Kinks''. Marion version "I Go to Sleep" was covered in 1967 by German singer Marion ( de) (later known as Marion Maerz). The Duke of Norfolk is an American folk musician from Oklahoma. History The Duke of Norfolk is an acoustic folk musician and the artistic moniker of Adam Howard, a native of Oklahoma, that started playing music in folk-rock jam bands as a drummer, and by performing at coffeehouses and colleges.
