Dick McGuire
Richard Joseph McGuire (January 26, 1926 β February 3, 2010) was an American professional basketball player and coach. One of the premier guards of the 1950s, McGuire spent 11 seasons in the NBA (1949β60), eight with the New York Knicks and three with the Detroit Pistons. McGuire led the league in assists during his rookie season with a then-record 386 assists, and was among the league's top ten playmakers for ten of his 11 seasons. He was an NBA All-Star seven times (1951,'52, '54-'56, '58, '59), and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 1951. McGuire became player-coach for the Pistons in his last season ( 1959β60), and coached them until 1963. He also coached the Knicks for three seasons, beginning in 1965. He compiled a 197-260 coaching record. McGuire was working as a senior consultant for the Knicks when he died on February 3, 2010 of a ruptured aortic aneurysm at age 84. The 1966β67 NBA season was the Lakers' 19th season in the NBA and seventh season in Los Angeles. This was the final season that they wore blue and white uniforms with cursive script reading "Los Angeles" on the front of both home and away uniforms, which had been in place since the team moved to Los Angeles in 1960, the following year they would switch to their familiar purple and gold with "Lakers" on the front of both uniforms, where it has remained ever since. 1966β67 Detroit Pistons Season
The 1966β67 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 19th season in the NBA and tenth season in the city of Detroit. The team played at Cobo Arena in Detroit. The team struggled to a 30-51 (.370) record, 5th in the Western Division. The team removed the coach role from 26 year-old player-coach Dave DeBusschere as the season was coming to an end, even as DeBusschere led the team (18.2 ppg, 11.8 rpg, NBA All-Star) on the court. 1966β67 Cincinnati Royals Season
The 1966β67 season was the Royals 22nd overall, and their tenth in Cincinnati. The season opened in the glare of their disappointing loss to Boston in the previous season's playoffs. It was considered a rebuilding season with some key roster changes. Long-time stars Jack Twyman and Wayne Embry had both retired, both unhappy with their roles on the team the previous year. Vince Boryla
Vincent Joseph Boryla (March 11, 1927 β March 27, 2016) was an American basketball player, coach and executive. His nickname was "Moose". He graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1944. He played basketball at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Denver, where he was named a consensus All-American in 1949. Boryla was part of the U.S team that won the gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Boryla played for the New York Knicks in the early 1950s. In 1951, Boryla scored nine points in the inaugural NBA All-Star Game and played in the NBA Finals in 1951 and 1953. Boryla did not participate in the 1952 playoffs.
