Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–1983)
The Liga Española de Baloncesto (English: Spanish Basketball League), whose top division was known as Primera División (English: First Division), was the old 1st Tier level basketball league in Spain, from 1957 to the 1982–83 season. It was organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation, and it was contested by the best clubs of the country. In 1983, the clubs decided to create the Basketball Clubs Association, and transformed the top division into the new Liga ACB, although that league was also named Primera División until 1988. Format The league was played in a double round-robin format without playoffs. Two points were conceded for a winning game, one for a draw, and no points for the loser. The worst teams of each season were relegated to the second division (Segunda División, called Primera División B since 1978). Real Canoe Natación Club is the basketball team of this club based in Madrid, Spain. The section was founded in 1940. The men's team played in the top division of Spanish basketball from 1957 to 1965, but nowadays plays in LEB Oro. The women's team was Liga Femenina champion three times, but now plays in Liga Femenina 2. History Men's team Founded in 1940, after achieving several titles of second division and Regional Castilian championships, made its debut in the Liga Nacional in 1957, where it remained until 1965. The 1967–68 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup was the second edition of FIBA's 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, contested between national domestic cup champions, running from November 1967, to 4 April 1968. 22 teams took part in the competition, three more than in the inaugural edition. AEK defeated 1966 FIBA European Champions Cup runner-up Slavia VŠ Praha, in the final, which for the first time was held as a single match, to become the competition's first Greek League champion. They previously defeated defending champion, Ignis Varese, in the semifinals. 1967–68 FIBA European Champions Cup was the eleventh installment of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). The Final was held at the Palais des Sports, Lyon, France, on April 11, 1968, and it was won by Real Madrid, who defeated Spartak ZJŠ Brno, by a result of 98–95. Competition system *24 teams (European national domestic league champions, plus the then current title holders), playing in a tournament system, played knock-out rounds, on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decided the winner. *The eight teams qualified for 1/4 Finals were divided into two groups of four.
