1966–67 FC Basel Season
The 1966–67 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 73rd season in their existence. It was their 21st consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion the season 1945–46. They now played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium, in the south-eastern end of the city and no longer in their old stadium Landhof. Harry Thommen took over as club chairman at the AGM from Lucien Schmidlin who retired and became vice-chairman. Overview Pre-season During this season Helmut Benthaus was the club player-manager for the second consecutive season. There were only a few minor changes in the squad. Walter Baumann moved to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Silvan Schwager moved to St. Gallen and Bruno Gabrieli moved to Grasshopper Club. Peter Füri moved on to SC Binningen and here he ended his football career. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Bruno Gabrieli
Bruno Gabrieli (born 26 April 1939) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the late 1950s and 1960s. He played mainly as a striker, but also as a midfielder. Gabrieli played first for Grasshopper Club in the top tier of Swiss football. In 1963 he moved to live in Basel and then played for Nordstern two tiers lower. Gabrieli joined FC Basel's first team at the end of their 1963–64 season under manager Jiří Sobotka. In this first season with the club, Gabrieli played in only three games in the Cup of the Alps during June 1964. In their 1964–65 season, after three test games, Gabrieli made his domestic league debut for his new club in the first league game of the season on 23 August as Basel lost 2–3 against Biel-Bienne. He scored his first goal for the club in the Swiss Cup on 1 November in the home game at the Landhof as Basel won 3–1 against FC Bern to advance to the next round. Karl Odermatt
Karl Odermatt (born 17 December 1942 in Lucerne) is a Swiss former footballer who played for FC Basel and BSC Young Boys throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He played as a midfielder or striker and is generally regarded as one of the best players ever to have worn the FC Basel shirt. He played through, what is now thought to be, Basel's golden years under trainer and manager Helmut Benthaus with teammates such as Paul Fischli, René Hasler and Ottmar Hitzfeld. Career As a small child "Karli" Odermatt grew up in Lucerne and later his family moved to Basel. A coach from the FC Concordia Basel youth system discovered him on a school football field, invited him to a club training and just a few days later he started playing in their youth team. Stadio Cornaredo
Cornaredo Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Lugano, Switzerland. It is used mostly for football matches. It is a home ground of FC Lugano. The stadium is able to hold 15,000 people and was built in 1951. The stadium has 5,000 seats and 10,000 standing places. During the 1954 FIFA World Cup, it hosted one game. Helmut Hauser
Helmut Hauser (born 7 March 1941) is a German former footballer. He played as forward. Hauser started his youth football with local club SV Schopfheim. He also played a few years in their senior team. In 1964 he transferred to Basel and played there for eight years, the first under trainer Georges Sobotka and seven under trainer Helmut Benthaus. He won the Swiss Championship four times and was Swiss Cup winner once. In the eight seasons in which Hauser played for Basel, he played a total of 287 games for the club scoring a total of 180 goals. 146 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 27 games were in the domestic cup, 42 were in European competitions and 82 games were test games. 70 of the goals were in the domestic league, 17 were in the cup, 20 were in European competitions ( European Cup, Cup of the Alps and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup) and the other 73 were in the tests. FC Lugano is a Swiss football club based in Lugano. The club was refounded as AC Lugano in 2004 as a result of relegation and the financial situation of FC Lugano, which was founded in 1908.
