The 1966 New Zealand rugby league season was the 59th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand lost two Test matches to Great Britain. The 1965 New Zealand rugby league season was the 58th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand drew a Test series 1-all with Australia. Australia defeated Wellington 34–16, Canterbury 19–4, the West Coast 16–6, Taranaki 29–11, Waikato 25-4 and Auckland at Carlaw Park 18–2. The Auckland team was; Jack Fagan, Roy Christian, Gary Bailey, Reg Cooke, Brian Campbell, Doug Ellwood, Billy Harford, Roy Roberts, Len Morgan, Albie Wiggs, Eddie Moore, Graham Mattson and Ernie Wiggs. Tony Kriletich came on as a substitute for Eddie Moore at halftime after Moore suffered a broken nose. Ernest David "Ernie" Wiggs ( – 10 October 2014) was a New Zealand rugby league player who represented New Zealand in the 1968 World Cup. Playing career Wiggs played for Otahuhu in the Auckland Rugby League competition. An Auckland representative, Wiggs was selected for New Zealand in 1964 for a Test against France at Prop. Roger Bailey (rugby League)
Roger Wayne Bailey is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer and coach who represented New Zealand thirty times between 1961 and 1970. His brother Gary also played for New Zealand while his brother Bob later coached New Zealand and his son David was also a professional player. Bailey is of New Zealand Māori descent. Playing career A member of the Ponsonby club, Bailey was an Auckland representative and was first picked for the New Zealand national rugby league team in 1961. He went on to play thirty test matches for the Kiwis and, in 1967, captained the Kiwis in two matches. Bailey also represented the New Zealand Māori side. In 1973 Bailey won the Hyland Memorial Cup as coach of the year in the Auckland Rugby League competition. Albert George Leonard ("Len") Morgan (March 23, 1922 – March 11, 2005) was an American aviator, writer, publisher, entrepreneur, photogrammetrist, and investor. Early life and education Len Morgan was born in West Terre Haute, Indiana. He was the son of British immigrants, father John ("Jack") Kingsley Morgan, a Presbyterian Minister and mother Juliet ("Jill") Freda née Gardner Morgan, a homemaker. The Rugby League Cup is a New Zealand rugby league trophy that is contested between districts on a challenge basis. The trophy used to be known as the Northern Union Challenge Cup. New South Wales Country Rugby League Team
The Country New South Wales rugby league team is a representative rugby league football team. Between 1987 and 2017 there were two tiers: the Origin team that consisted of professional players who originated from clubs of the Country Rugby League and a representative team of amateur and semi-professional players. The Country Origin team played annually in the City vs Country Origin competition against the City New South Wales rugby league team, which was made up of players originating from Sydney. This match was discontinued in 2017. The representative team has played in a number of formats over the years: quad and tri series, annual fixtures and tour matches.
